Definition- Remark or passage from a character in a play that is intended to be heard by the audience but unheard by the other characters in the play.

Example- This is shown in many of Shakespeare's plays when he has actors tell the audience what is happening but the other characters don't hear it.

Sentence-This could be used to describe a scene that might otherwise be confusing to the audience.


Definition- A person or thing that contrasts with and so emphasizes and enhances the qualities of another

Example- The Lion King shows foil because one of the lions is bad and tries to influence the other.

Sentence- This is often times seen in superhero movies and most movies and shows and literature have a set of foil characters in it.

Definition-A play dealing with tragic events and having an unhappy ending, esp one conceding the downfall of the main character

Example- In the Hunger Games Katniss has a tragedy when Rue is killed.

Sentence- Often times is one of the character dies and it affects the main character heavily.
