Labeling of GMFs-Mandatory?
Definitely!
What are GMFs?
GMFs are foods that have been genetically modfied. Scientists insert genes from different organisms into the DNA of a plant. This produces desirable traits in the plants.
Benefits and Risks of GMFs
Some benefits of GMFs are that they can increase the production of food in under-developed countries, they have a resistance to diseases in crops, they can have more vitamins and minerals, an increase in the level of antioxidants, and have a longer shelf life.
Some risks of GMFs are that they can cause problems for the immune system, gastrointestinal problems, and can even cause tumors. They can also upset the ecosystem and pollute the environment, since most genetically modified crops are exposed to large amounts of herbicide.
My Opinion
In my opinion, GMFs should be labeled. People should know what they are eating, and they should be able to make their own choice of whether they are going to eat GMFs or not.
