Welcome to the Winter Trimester! It's not every year we kick it off with a snow day and we hope you're easing back into a routine.
This newsletter is going to update you on the library hours for the beginning part of the trimester.
But what we're really excited to focus on is our new comprehensive search tool. You can now search multiple databases and our catalog for books and articles with one search. You don't have to visit multiple databases. Read below to learn more about which databases it searches and which databases you may still have to visit.
You can watch the tutorial below or come to next week's all-encompassing "Get to know the library" webinar where you can learn how to use the library.
Every trimester, we love to promote the school's educational subscription to Grammarly. It's an amazing tool to help polish your writing. It goes beyond giving grammar and spelling suggestions. It provides recommendations on being more clear and hitting the right tone.
If you haven't signed up for Visible Body yet, please look below to get more information on the university's tool to help you learn anatomy.
Finally, if you'd like to get more regular library updates, please follow us on our new Instagram account where we'll post more about the cool things (and cool people?) you can find here.

Other Changes
Should there be any other changes to the open hours, we will post those changes on the website. You may also find them on our social media accounts. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
Website:
The library home page was updated over the break. The biggest change is that the former three-tabbed search bar has been reconfigured into a single search (learn more about that below). We also made a few tweaks to the links below the search, based on the website survey feedback from last Fall.
New Search Tool
In the past, if you wanted to search for a book, you'd have to search our catalog. If you wanted to look in a specific publication, you had to use e-journal finder, and if you wanted to find articles to use in research, you had to select and search one of the databases we offer.
But with this new tool, you can do it all in one easy search.
- Do you want to find if we have a book? Put the title in the search area and if we have it, our catalog entry will appear.
- Do you want to see if we have access to a journal or a newspaper? Put in the title and search. If we have access, you'll be given links about accessing it online or be given information about the print journals we have in the library.
- Do you need to find articles for your research or paper you're writing? Perform a search and relevant articles from our subscription databases will appear. You may be given a link to full-text or a link to request interlibrary loan from the results.
In other words, it's a little like Google but even better because the focus is on high-quality resources with direct links to full-text when available.
To learn more about the tool, watch the video below or come to our library orientation next week.
Get To Know The Library
This lunchtime webinar will go over how to use the services the library has to offer and introduce you to our one-search tool. Learn about finding full text, what databases we offer, how to sign up to use the study rooms and you can ask any questions you have.
