November Update

We are into the second quarter! We had a successful first quarter and wonderful Student Led Conferences (SLCs) where students were able to reflect on and work through their successes and areas of growth from the first quarter. As we move through November and near the end of the semester, we want to give families some key dates and make you aware of some behaviors we’re concerned about and will be supporting.

  • 11/21-11/25 - Thanksgiving Break (11/21 and 22 are staff PD days).
  • 11/28 - Classes resume.
  • 12/2 Students with AEs, who would like to apply for credit extension will need to do so by 12/2; applications for credit extension will be made available on 11/28.
  • 12/6 Last day of normally scheduled classes.
  • 12/7-12/9 No school for students, PD for staff.
  • 12/12-12/15 OSTs and MAP Assessments, all days early release at 12:30pm.
  • 12/16 Senior retreat, no school for 9th-11th graders.

Because there are only three and a half weeks of classes remaining, we want to make sure that students are getting the most out of their time in school. We will be supporting students in being on time to class and staying engaged in class.

  • Students with no tardies for each week will be entered into a drawing for school swag and/or gift cards.
  • Students with 3 or more tardies in a week will receive a lunch detention.
  • We are encouraging staff to use Hero to track students that are in class and engaged.
  • Students who are out of class for 10 minutes or longer will be considered skipping unless they are with a staff member. These students will receive appropriate consequences, and possibly, behavior plans to support them in staying in class.
  • Students will be able to (and may be asked to) take advantage of working lunch to work on standards they haven’t mastered.
  • Students are also asked to engage in Academic Check-ins - please keep an eye out for emails each Monday.

With classes ending in 5 calendar weeks, it may feel to students that they have time; but those 5 weeks contain much less class time, and we want our students to master their standards and grow their skills. Remember, you can ask your student to check in with you about their grades on assignments in Schoology. Their overall grade for each Long Term Learning Target will be in PowerSchool. Students must earn an ME or EE on every Long Term Learning Target (LTLT) to earn credit and pass the class. If your student is not passing one LTLT, have them check in with their teacher about how to reassess and show mastery.

TGS Homecoming - Friday, November 4!

Would your family benefit from a Thanksgiving Box?

The Graham School has partnered with a local church to provide families with Thanksgiving boxes. Boxes will include all the traditional sides plus a $20 Kroger/Giant Eagle gift card for the protein of choice. Each box would serve 8-10 people. Click here to complete the quick survey. The survey closes on Friday, November 18.

Field Day

TGS staff and students celebrated Field Day recently celebrated at Brevoort Park. Warm weather, sunshine, and colorful autumn leaves enhanced the variety of fun activities offered from Face painting, Cornhole, Balloon creations, Volleyball, and an extremely competitive staff vs. students basketball tournament! (Although the staff lost, we WILL reign supreme again!)

When you shop at Kroger and/or Amazon you can help TGS raise money for class supplies!
