Spring Mills Families,
It is with a heavy heart that I write this email, but it is necessary given the events taking place right now with COVID-19. When I took this job, my vision for our building was for it to be our kids’ home during the day. I want it to be a place where they are safe and they know they can go even in difficult times. A place that they can look fondly upon and call “home” in the truest sense of the word.
Like most good homes though, the people here are what truly make it what it is. Yes, we have the nicest building in the state. Yes, it is a beautiful structure. But our students and staff are what make it shine. Over the past week I have seen so much good in people that it makes me swell with pride knowing that I am part of such a tremendous school and community. We have teachers reaching out to students and trying to connect through any means necessary. Cooks who have packed and served hundreds of meals. Custodians who are putting themselves in harm’s way to disinfect and clean. We also have, without question, some of the most diligent and hard-working students that anyone could ask for. Even today we had students coming and asking for work and showing genuine concern for their grades.
I could go on and on but I am sure you get the point and while this has been an exhausting week, it has also been a rewarding one because I have seen firsthand how much this building means to people. That is what makes the decision to close the doors to all students, staff, and general public that much more difficult. However, based on health department and CDC recommendations, this is the best decision to ensure the safety of everyone involved here moving forward. So as of today, all of our facilities will be closed and off limits until further notice. That includes the school, field house, weight room, and all athletic facilities.
This is not a decision made lightly but it is time to start protecting our home. If you need anything I would encourage you to reach out to your teachers or anyone on the staff through email. You can find all staff email address on our homepage under the “Our School” tab. Simply click on “Meet Our Staff” and you can search anyone in the building. I hope my next message will be one with better news but for now, I would encourage you all to listen to what the CDC recommends and take care of yourself and any friends, family, and neighbors that may need it. We will hopefully be back sooner than later so remember: All red lights eventually turn green.
Be safe and be well - I’ll see you when I see you.
Sincerely,
Jason Kamlowsky
