Personal Safety- IRL and Online!
K
Let's talk about being safe!
Tell me what makes us safe and what doesn't!
Talk about personal space bubbles. What do we know about making room for others? Who has the right to be in YOUR personal space?
Hula Hoop! Now, what can you do if someone is IN your personal space?
What is the right and the wrong way to handle that? “Back up buddy! This is my space.” - don’t have to be mean, but use a big kid voice. Do we yell? NO. Do we hit? NO Do we use our big kid voice and say back up buddy. This is my space? YES!
NO! GO! TELL!

Personal space: Hula Hoop.
Personal Space & Secrets
Personal Space
- Use the hula hoop to demonstrate personal space.
- Discuss why we have personal space.
- Why is important to stay out of others' personal space?
Touches
There are three types of touches.
- Safe - hugs, high fives
- Ouch - hitting, kicking
- Private - touching areas that are private (hidden with a bathing suit)
Safe and Unsafe Secrets
Those unsafe secrets are unsafe because they include ouch (make us miserable, mad, hurt, or scared) or private touches (those that make us feel icky and uncomfortable and weird and are where your bathing suit is!) and those are never, ever, ever okay. Ever!
We don’t keep secrets with adults. So here’s what we do...
- We say no, in our strong voice.
- Then we go!
- Then we tell someone in our safety network: NO-GO-TELL! What do we do? NO-GO-TELL.
Safety Network
- They are 5 trusted adults that you can tell.
- Write them down.
- Memorize them and know you can go tell them. Adults that can fix it!
