The Manning Weekly Newsletter
January 29, 2020
Manning Community,
I want to thank our student council for their incredible chalk work and beautification of our sidewalks! All staff and students were greeted Monday morning with inspirational messages, words of welcome, and even the value of Pi! As you see above and as you scroll through this weekly messenger, you will see some of their work.
I would also like to thank our office staff for being so responsive to our families, and our teachers for being so dedicated to your children's education! It takes a village and I'm very proud of the Manning staff for being so incredible amidst a very challenging time.
Finally, I got to be attend the 7th grade assembly today that was presented by the Mizel Museum on propaganda and personal responsibility. This was the last of three assemblies on the Holocaust. The assembly today was yet another great reminder on how lies can be so quickly propagated, and the devastating impacts of racism. I couldn't think of better timing for this assembly as our students are asked to navigate a country divided and world that is become more and more complex. As our future leaders, I'm excited to see what our Manning students can do to uphold the important values of equality, equity, courage, and kindness. I want to thank our 7th grade ELA teachers, Ms. Claussen and Mr. Hageman for putting together this wonderful enrichment experience that was funded by our PTA and the wonderful families that contribute to our PTA.
I will leave you with a quote that exemplifies the importance of our interconnectedness and the power of working together:
"For the strength of the pack is in the wolf; and the strength of the wolf is in the pack." -Rudyard Kipling
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! The weather this weekend is one of the reasons we moved to Colorado 16 years ago; fresh powder in the mountains and beautiful weather on the front range.
Stronger Together,
Christian Ramaker

Hybrid doesn't mean pick and choose....
We are so glad to have your students in the building! But, hybrid learning doesn't mean families can pick and choose when they are hybrid and when they are remote. Please honor your decision and send your students in person on their assigned days. If they are sick or have an appointment, please use the process below to excuse them.
They are only here for 2 days a week, so please try to make appointments and such on the days when they are remote.
Thank you!
ATTENDANCE NOTES:
If your student will miss school, regardless of in-person or remote, a parent or guardian must call the attendance line within 24 hours of the absence. Calling ahead of time or the morning of the absence is best practice.
Late Arrivals:
Appointments/other: Students enter through the front door, ringing the doorbell for entry and proceed to the main office for health screening and sign in to obtain a pass to class. Notes from Parents or Dr. Notes for appointments must accompany the student to be excused.
Performing Arts: Students will enter through the front door and proceed to the front office to be health screened and sign themselves in. These are daily pre-arranged late arrivals. No note is required.
Early Dismissals:
Appointments: send your student to the front office in the morning with a note alerting us that your student will be picked up at the specific time and the reason. We will give your student a pass to leave class at the appropriate time to come to the office and sign out. You need to ring the doorbell or call the office to alert us you have arrived. PRE-ARRANGEMENT OF EARLY RELEASE IS REQUIRED
Performing Arts: Students will come to the front office at their dismissal time and sign themselves out and they can proceed to your car without you calling or coming to the door. These are daily pre-arranged dismissals.
Sick students: Students need to come to the clinic when they don’t feel well and the clinic aide will contact you for pickup. You will arrive at the front entrance and call or ring the bell to alert us to your arrival and we will bring the student out.
Mask Rules...
All students are required to wear a mask while in the building.
No bandanas, scarves or neck gaiters can be used as a mask
Students without a mask will be given one

SEL Corner....a place to fill up your bucket
Ever wonder why your middle schooler doesn’t seem to be motivated by long term goals or questions about their future? Their frontal lobe growth and lower executive functioning is your answer. They simply can not imagine themselves in the future. That person is a stranger to them.
We can help them develop these skills through imagination, mental images, and other executive functioning skill development. If you’re interested in learning more below are some links. And you are always welcome to reach out to us here at Manning.

7TH-GRADE VIRTUAL ASSEMBLY TODAY -- FRIDAY, JAN. 29: RUDI FLORIAN -- HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR: PROPAGANDA AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Born to devout Catholics in 1934 in Germany, Rudi Florian’s parents opposed the Nazis but didn’t dare to do so openly. As a child, Rudi’s teachers were Nazis and his schoolbooks contained Nazi propaganda. When he was 10 years old, he briefly served in the Hitler Youth until his mother came up with an excuse to have him released. When Russian troops invaded Germany, Rudi’s family was displaced to Poland. Eventually, they moved to East Berlin, where Rudi encountered Communist propaganda. Later in life, Rudi made a pledge to “join those who warned that genocide can happen again to any group of people, anywhere…” and served in the United States Air Force for 30 years. Now retired, Rudi educates others about the importance of remembering the Holocaust, the value of human rights and the sanctity of life.
Smart but Scattered Session - February 25, 2021
Presenter Info: Dr. Peg Dawson is an internationally known school psychologist specializing in executive skills for schools and organizations.
Strategies for Parents and Families: Helping Children and Teens Strengthen Executive Skills to Reach Their Full Potential Executive skills are brain functions which help us to accomplish goals, overcome challenges, plan and organize activities, and work to complete a task. These skills are critical to learning and while some students seem to acquire them naturally, many struggle to develop them. Join us for a session with Dr. Peg Dawson, to learn how these skills develop in children and strategies parents and families can use to help their children be successful learners.
