Grandparents are invited to join us beginning with mass at 8:15am in our church. The event will last until about 11am. Those grandparents not able to join us are invited to send a card or letter to their grandchild here at the school. Cards/Letters will be delivered to the grandchildren during the event.

CSW Masses

We will kick off Catholic Schools Week the weekend of January 25th and 26th with students hosting all weekend masses for our parishioners. We are currently seeking students and families to assist us with these masses. Please find a form in this week’s white envelope and let us know how your child(ren)/family would like to participate in a mass. Please return these forms at your earliest convenience.

All are invited to join us for Family Movie Night on Friday, January 24th. We will be watching Toy Story 4. Information can be found in this week’s white envelope. This is always a really fun evening for all of our families. Make plans to join us on the multi-purpose field.

Family Picnic

Families are invited to join us for lunch on Thursday, January 30 from 11:45-12:30pm. You may preorder lunch from SLA (see order form in today’s white envelope) or bring lunch for your family. Guests will pick their children up from the classrooms and find a place to spread out a picnic blanket and enjoy lunch on the playground or in the area of the courtyard. Please note, we will NOT allow students to play during the Family Picnic. In the interest of safety with all of our guests, children will not be permitted to run around or play on the playground. We ask that parents keep their children with them in their picnic area until they return to the classroom. Teachers will bring classes out for recess at other times during the day.

Daddy Daughter Dance

Girls are invited to bring their Daddies to a very special evening on Friday, February 7. Our Daddy Daughter Dance will be held from 6:30-8:30pm in our parish center. Cost is $10 per family regardless of how many daughters are accompanied by one father. Desserts and drinks will be served.

Polk County Catholic Schools Night at Lakeland Tropics

Our concert choir will be singing the National Anthem at the Lakeland Tropics game on January 25, 2020 for Polk County Catholic Schools night. This will be a televised game, and the owner of the team wants to have the stands packed with SJCS people. Tickets are $15.00. The school will sell the first 50 tickets.

Progress Monitoring

In class today, all students in kindergarten through grade 8 completed the mid-year progress monitoring assessment for writing. Students were given a writing prompt and ample time to plan, draft, revise/edit, and finalize their piece of writing. Teachers will use this prompt to evaluate individual and whole group progress and determine the course of action in the writing class for the remainder of the school year. These progress monitoring pieces will be a part of the student’s writing portfolios that will be shared with parents during writing conferences in April.

Standardized Testing Grades 2 through 8

Please note that students in grades 2-8 will begin standardized testing on Monday, February 21st with preparation and practice tests. The testing will extend over two weeks until Friday, March 6th. The week of March 19-13 will be reserved for makeup tests for students who are absent. Please make this note on your calendar and make plans for your second through eighth grader to be here all day between February 21 through March 6.

O Blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of Mary, the virgin Mother of God, I choose you this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor you all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly ask you to receive me as your client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death.

Amen
