Principal's Message
Skyline K-8 Community,
Thanks for being such an amazing and supportive community. I am so sorry about the bus issues on Monday. Thanks for your understanding, and please know that I am working with transportation to be more proactive moving forward. A huge thank you to Chris Sugura, Carol Reifsteck, Kristina Porter and Amy Tilt for staying late and making sure everyone got home safely.
On Wednesday, Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Luis Valentino, visited Skyline K-8. It was so much fun giving him a tour of our school and visiting all of the classrooms. He was really impressed with how well behaved and engaged our students were at Skyline K-8.
Please see the information below regarding our upcoming auction. I am so excited to attend again and look forward to seeing you there.
Have a nice extended weekend!

Counselor's Corner
It is the start of a new quarter and we have a lot of exciting events happening at Skyline. Next week we will be re-teaching our school wide behavior expectations to ensure the second half of the school year is fantastic. The following week of January 28-February 1, Skyline will be joining thousands of other schools across the world in the “Great Kindness Challenge.” All week, students will be engaging in various kind activities and keeping track of their own acts of kindness. As part of the week’s activities, we will be conducting a sock drive to collect warm socks for Portland’s homeless community. Please keep your eyes open for sales on new or gently used warm socks.
Have a wonderful week,
Amy Gervais

IB Corner
Last Friday the 4-5 teachers and I had an amazing opportunity to work with The International School, The French/American School, The German/American School and Sabin. We were able to talk about what we are doing regarding our 5th-grade Exhibition. As we are all IB schools it was so nice to connect to other teachers doing the same things that we are and share resources. Building relationships with other schools and teachers only allow us as a school to grow our program here at Skyline as well as our practices as teachers. I am very excited to see this year's 5th-grade Exhibition and all the amazing work that our teachers and students are going to do. Please stay tuned for the official Exhibition date!
Next month the K-1 team, 2-3 team, and Ms. Melton will be joining in another opportunity to collaborate in a 2-day workshop with MLK Elementary School, Sabin Elementary and Vernon K-8. This 2-day workshop will give us an opportunity to dive deeper into our IB instruction, the inquiry process, and assessments. I look forward to sharing more information after the training.
Exciting happenings!
Every year the 7th-grade students host a STEM Night! This year the 7th-grade students are partnering with the PTA to hold an even larger STEM night! During this night the 7th-grade students will show off their amazing inventions and the process they took to discover a problem and find a solution. Thanks to the PTA there will also be many volunteers joining our school to set up exhibits. This is going to be an amazing event and I hope to see everyone there on February 27th!
TAG Information
I am working with the TAG proctor on scheduling our TAG testing for all students who were nominated to test back in November. The testing will be in the month of February, however, we are just connecting calendars as to what days work for the proctor as well as our school. I will send home letters the week prior to notify families as well as post the dates in this newsletter.
