TUMUAKI KŌRERO
Kia ora e te whānau,
Welcome back to Term 4. We hope you had a restful and relaxing holiday. Learners have settled well into classrooms, enjoying the wonderful weather, and making the most of outdoor facilities and our new basketball hoops. For our Year 8's, this will be a term of mixed emotions as they farewell TNIS and move on to High School. We encourage them to embrace the last eight weeks of their time here and challenge themselves.
Term 4 offers a number of exciting opportunities for learners, including the Year 8 PYP exhibition, Athletics Day, and End of Year Prize Giving. Please remember to check our school calendar and school app for up-to-date information.
Boys Toilets: This week, we have had several issues with boys deliberately flooding and blocking toilets. This is very frustrating and has incurred a cost to the school with plumbers being called out. This silly behaviour certainly does not uphold the TNIS way; it would be appreciated if you could reinforce this at home.
Morning Karakia/Motto: As a school, we start our daily learning and togetherness as a class and school with a Karakia. The Karakia is one of the many ways our school upholds our obligations to Te Tiriti O Waitangi. As a school, we respect every family's beliefs and practices, and if you do not want your child to participate in morning karakia/motto, please inform their teacher. A link to the TNIS karakia is attached Karakia.
Resilience Project: The Resilience Project curriculum is a powerful part of how we support our student's mental health and wellbeing at TNIS. The founder of the programme Hugh Van Cuylenburg is touring New Zealand, and he will appear at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna on Friday, the 4th, and Saturday, the 5th of November.
If you are already talking about The Resilience Project at home or would like to find out more, join Hugh as he walks you through his journey and tells stories of the incredible people who have inspired him and The Resilience Project to spread happiness. Hugh will unpack the research on mental health and break it down into simple tips that will leave you feeling empowered to improve your wellbeing. Adults, parents, professionals, and teenagers: this talk is for you. Well, it's for anyone who wants to share a laugh and pick up some well-being tips.
Limited tickets are still available at:
I hope you have a long relaxing weekend.
Kia pai tō rā whakatā

Calling all musicians who are coming to Westlake in 2023!
Westlake Girls Transition Interviews
At WGHS, we understand first-hand that good parent-school partnerships are the best way to support our students' learning. In Term 3, we encourage parents of students attending WGHS in 2023 who have additional learning and behavioural needs to start this partnership process now. Please consider booking your daughter's enrolment interview with Mrs Julie Mulcahy, the Head of Learning Enhancement at WGHS. This is an opportunity for you as parents and your daughter to share information about learning needs so we can work together to support a successful transition from intermediate to secondary schooling.
I look forward to meeting our new families and students so we can ensure every student at Westlake is supported, present, participating, learning and belonging in 2023. Please use the following email address enrolments@westlakegirls.school.nz and specify that you want to make an appointment with Julie Mulcahy. This meeting will be for 30mins.
