St. Viator Parish School
Viator Voice: January 29, 2023
This week in America is Catholic Schools Week. This is an annual celebration of Catholic Education across the United States. The theme for this year’s Catholic Schools Week is: “Faith. Excellence. Service.” St. Viator Parish School began its annual celebration week with a Mass attended by the faculty and staff as well as our students and families. Our school will spend this week creating activities for students that share the value a Catholic education provides young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation. On behalf of our Pastor, faculty, and staff, I would like to thank you for the gift of your children!
The past and present success in all we do would not be possible without the significant ministries of the St. Viator Parish School staff. All of our teachers are degreed and certified in their field and many members have Master Degrees and Catechist Certification. We have a full-time nurse, counselor, as well as four Educational Specialists and teacher’s aides to assist us in our mission to adjust and adapt our curriculum and teaching strategies to meet to abilities and learning styles of our students. Elementary school is an important and unforgettable time, and for many of our students it is the most time they will spend at any one school or college. Students will build lasting memories and loving friendships during their years here.
At Saint Viator School, we believe that our parents are the primary educators of their children. Parents and alumni are an integral part of our tight-knit community with your involvement in the classroom, on the sports fields, or to serve the school as members of the Foundation Board and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Board. We take this time to thank our parents for your parental involvement, and most importantly, we thank you for your continual investment in a faith-based educational program.
Happy Catholic Schools Week!

THE ANNUAL ST. VIATOR SCHOOL FOUNDATION DINNER
For 34 years the St. Viator School Foundation financed capital improvement projects through one fundraiser each year - our Annual Dinner & Auction. Proceeds from our last event financed student iPads, Covid improvements, which included all new water fountains, safety plexiglass, and much more. The Foundation also financed our beautiful new library!
Each year, the Foundation honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service to the St. Viator Community. On February 25, 2023, we proudly welcome new members to our Hall of Fame:
Laura & Rene Alcaraz, Rosy & Paul Hartz and Christa & Todd Morse. Mark your calendar and join the celebration for a fabulous fun evening.

Here to Help
Hello to the single parents out there! Welcome to this space. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to write directly to you, but this article is specifically for you. First of all, let me say, you are not alone. We are right here walking through this journey with you and we care about you. We see you. I see you. Let me take a minute to explain the single parent to you. A single parent is a person raising their child without another parent present for whatever reason. Sometimes this means there is another parent available, but for a multitude of reasons, they are unwilling or unable to parent with the other person. This equation includes those who raise a child with a coparent.
This article is for you.
As single parents, many of us can feel stuck in the hurt that we’ve encountered in the past. We can find ourselves replaying past mistakes and some of us don’t like thinking about the past because it can be difficult or cause us to feel shame. However, experience without reflection is pointless and there are safe ways to begin to heal from this hurt. One way we reflect and process is through journaling. It allows a safe and private space to process pain and record gratitude. Another way we can process more directly and acquire new life/coping skills is through counseling and therapy. This is also a safe space where we receive direct guidance and new strength by sharing our story with another person. This is where we invite another human being into our inner rings of experience and we begin to understand how to heal and build new patterns in our behavior. Both of these methods can help kickstart a new journey in a positive and informed way for you and your child. If you need help finding a counselor or therapist, I have a wonderful list of resources I’d be happy to share.
It can be easy to want to just get through this time in your life or to even fast forward. But remembering this season is going to be so important to you in the future and you want to make sure you walk through it with as many tools in your toolbelt as possible. This requires extra effort from you, but it is well worth the energy it will take to begin the healing process. I’m here to help if you need a place to begin.
Blessings to you,
Monica
