PBIS Mid-Month Celebration Honors Visual Jazz
This month's PBIS Mid-Month Celebration at Western Avenue incorporated jazz and art in honor of Black History Month. With Chicago historically being recognized as a hub for many popular jazz artists, including Louis Armstrong, King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, and Jelly Roll Morton, what better way to end our week with cool jazz playing over our intercom throughout the building?
A very special thanks to Mrs. Kubas and Mr. Hood for creating this shared experience for our school. We enjoy bringing our entire community together in celebration of our school-wide expectations for being safe, respectful, and responsible. Go Wolves!

Please Come Visit Western Avenue's Lost & Found!
Western Avenue has two areas for Lost & Found: the playground entrance in the K/1 hallway and the playground entrance at the 3/4/5 hallway. Much of the Lost & Found is organized and taken care of by our Brownie Troop and their volunteer leaders. There is an overwhelming amount of items in the current Lost & Found and it's time for a mid-year clean out!
A charity will be picking up items on Friday, March 1st. We encourage students and parents to take a peak through the Lost & Found before that date! We've spotted plenty of snow pants, coats, sweatshirts, and hats - many have been here since October! The Girl Scouts love to help out at Western Avenue, but we need your help to manage all of the items in our Lost & Found.
Last year they bagged up nearly 30 garbage bags of items at the end of the year, washed these items, and donated them to Respond Now. It would be great if there were more items returned back home to our students. Please take a moment to stop by our Lost & Found and claim your items today! Photos of our current Lost & Found Items are below. Thank you for your support!

Traffic Flow at Arrival and Dismissal
Parents, we understand that everyone is rushing to get their days started in the morning. However, we need to do a better job driving safely in the drop-off and pick-up lines. We have three staff members directing traffic at the front lot, two staff members posted at door I (primary playground), and multiple people posted at the playgrounds and blacktop area between the playgrounds. We also have one person stationed in the North parking lot. Please remember that there is a traffic flow. Students must be dropped off in the designated car lines. Please do not drop off your children on any other street or sidewalk other than the designated lines. Please do not wait in line to make sure your child walks to the door because that stops the flow for other parents behind you. And please be very mindful when you are pulling away from the car line. There should only be one priority for morning drop off and afternoon pick up--and that priority is the safety of all our kids at Western Avenue. If we all work together, we can ensure the safety of all students. Thank you!
Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful week!
