Message From Central Road School
Mrs. Joanna Shostachuk, School Principal
A Note from Mrs. Shostachuk 02/06/2022
Dear Central Road Families,
February is officially here! We enjoyed another great week of teaching and learning! The snow showed us winter is here for a bit longer. It is always wonderful to see how our students enjoy playing in it during recess. According to our local groundhog & our first graders, spring should be coming shortly and we will hope for that to be true! Please continue to stay healthy in the coming weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to read our weekly communication. We are happy to connect together as a strong home-school connection is truly the key to success! We too thank you for your continued support. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Kindest Regards,
Joanna Shostachuk

5 Essentials Parent Survey
Our annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey time is here! This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of our school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. There are five indicators that can be targeted to improve important student outcomes, including attendance and state test score gains. The 5Essentials Survey asks questions about:
*Effective Leaders
*Collaborative Teachers
*Involved Families
*Supportive Environments
*Ambitious Instruction
This is an important survey that is on the State Report Card. We are required to get 20% of our parents to complete this survey in order to view the results. Please help us by completing the quick 10 minute survey by February 18, 2022! See below for details to take the survey. Thank you in advance for helping Central Road School.

Health Office News 02-06-2022
Our winter months are here! Please continue to encourage good hand washing. Please also keep your child at home if he/she is feeling ill. We continue to work hard to keep our students learning in person at school each day and appreciate your support. Please note that COVID guidelines change often. We do our best to inform impacted families with the latest information as needed.
For students with any one or more of the following: Students should be fever free for 24 hours without fever- reducing medication and 48 hours after diarrhea/vomiting have ceased, and symptoms have improved.
-fever (100.4 or higher)
-sore throat
-new onset of a persistent, moderate to severe headache
-new cough
-shortness of breath
-vomiting or diarrhea
-new loss of taste or smell
-fatigue from an unknown cause
-muscle or body aches from an unknown cause.
A lab based, RT-PCR test is required for clearance to return to school. MD notes are no longer accepted per directive from The Cook County Department of Public Health. You can return results to me at patela1@ccsd15.net.
Shield Testing UPDATE
Over winter break, the consent you filled out expired through SHIELD. Due to these forms expiring, all students had to be re-opted in. We are asking parents to re-complete the SHIELD Consent Form. This is a new form from the one you previously completed.
*The new form will be valid through June 30th, 2022. You are able to opt your child(ren) in/out at any time by emailing SHIELD@ccsd15.net.
If you would like to re-OPT your child-in, please complete the form attached for each of your children and email it to SHIELD@ccsd15.net.
If you have any questions about SHIELD Testing, please visit our FAQ for answers to some common questions. Should you have any questions, please email Rebecca Latham at lathamr@ccsd15.net.
Students continue to sit 3 feet away from peers masked while learning indoors. Mask wearing outdoors continues to remain optional for students and staff. We also continue to maintain 6 feet of distance when eating during our lunch time as best as possible.
If you have any questions regarding your child's health, you may reach me at patela1@ccsd15.net or at 847-963-5102. We will work together to ensure all guidelines are followed and clearly understood while keeping our students all safe and healthy!
Thank you for your patience.

Recess and Cold Weather
Students generally will continue to go outside for recess every day so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess. Thank you for sending your child(ren) to school with winter gear as needed. We will continue to enjoy the fresh air as much as we can in the coming weeks.
Cold Weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Orland Park Dental Services (OPDS)
Community Consolidated School District 15 will be hosting Orland Park Dental Services (OPDS) coming up in March through May. OPDS has provided in-school dental services for all eligible children in the State of Illinois since 1999. Dental services will be accessible to children eligible for public aid as well as for those with private insurance.
Anyone signed up will receive a free dental exam and a toothbrush. For those who qualify or provide private insurance information, the additional services may include a cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants. All services done will be given to the child in a take home form describing the services determined, areas of concern, overall oral care score, and any additional care needed. If any additional help is needed for the child a comprehensive list of available local dentists will be given with no limits of insurance. All these in-school services will be provided by licensed dentists, hygienists, and assistants with state-of-the-art portable equipment and ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment at your child’s school.

THANK A CENTRAL ROAD STAFF MEMBER
As we enter the 2nd half of the school year, I invite you to take notice of the things you see your child's teacher do, hear your child's teacher say, or the things you hear your child gush with excitement about related to their teacher. We've included this simple form for you to submit should you feel so inclined to do so. Children in full day school spend more of their waking day with their teacher than they do with their parents. We thank you for entrusting your child with us! This has been a good school year and your kind words mean more than you know!
Moving D15 Forward Community Meeting
As part of the Moving 15 Forward initiative, the District has scheduled community meetings at each of our schools. Central Road's visit is tentatively set for Tuesday, February 22. During our meeting, an overview of the proposal will be presented, and specifics on proposed changes to our school will be shared. Additional information will be shared as we finalize plans, but we wanted to send a Save the Date in hopes all interested families can add the date to their calendar.
Community and/or PTA Information
District 15 and local partners will be providing a parent night focusing on “Fostering Resilience in Your Family” on February 16th from 7-8pm.
