Elementary Office Hours
“At Union Colony Elementary School we feel that all students should come to school every day, on time and remain in school for the entire school day. When a student is tardy or leaves school early, it affects his/her academic performance, as well as the performance of other students. Students who are habitually tardy or check-out early often, (those who have more than 10 tardies/early check-outs in a semester), may be assigned to an attendance plan."
Individual Student Pictures
School picture day is Monday, October 2nd. You may either order online, with the QR code or a paper envelope order form will go home with students on Thursday, September 28. The envelope will need to be returned to school on picture day for your order to be placed. Check or cash are accepted in the envelope. For credit card orders, you must order online or with the QR code.
Cold Weather is COMING
The mornings have been quite chilly lately. Please be sure to send your student with a jacket or sweater to school. We will be going outside for recess and are often outside for PE or other classroom activities.
Sexy Sammies Fundraiser Results
Thank you to all the families that supported our school and had some great food too! The grand total of donations from your purchases was $279! That is a wonderful total and we are so thankful to all of you and to Sexy Sammies for making this fundraiser a success.
Art Club
Just a quick note to let you know that your student will be (or has already) brought home a syllabus detailing everything you need to know about the upcoming Fall semester Art Club. Art Club this semester will be focusing on the art of origami and will be held after school from 3:10 PM to 4 PM. It will be held on Mondays, for 7 weeks from Monday, October 9th to Monday, November 27th. Students must have a ride home from Union Colony Elementary at 4 PM to participate. There is no school transportation available for any after school programs. All activities are free, and students do not need to bring anything other than themselves and a desire to learn about the art of origami to Art Club! However, only 7 students per grade (grades 3, 4 and 5) can attend this session and will be picked in the order the signed syllabi are returned.
If your student is one of the first seven to return their signed syllabus, and they are eligible for Art Club, they will be bringing home a letter notifying you by the end of next week (Oct. 5th). If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at jpatterson@unioncolonyschools.org.

Honorary Timberwolves
Union Colony has 2 special friends that live in Ms. Bailey's office. Tommy and Ziggy are American Shorthair Guinea Pigs. Tommy is orange and white and Ziggy is black and white with a "crested" mohawk! Ms. Bailey adopted them from the Larimer Humane Society in October of 2022. They will be 3 years old in October this year. We are so happy to have these special 'Timberwolves' in our building to say hi to, feed kale, lettuce or cilantro, or just give a scratch on the head.
Love on a Leash
Love on a Leash is a program that Union Colony Elementary participates in where certified therapy dogs come into our building and visit our students. Hank is a 1 1/2-year-old Great Pyrenees/ Newfoundland mix and Dottie is a 10-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Some whole classes have Hank and Dottie visit and sometimes, individual students get to share time with them.
Ehlas and Hanan are meeting Hank for the first time!
Benji and Gabe give Hank some love💙
Kaedynn has never seen a dog as big as Hank
Francisco and Jefrey love Hank 💗

The Colorado Hailstorm donated many tickets to our school, good for any home game. The office has these tickets and will give them to Union Colony families on a first come, first served basis. Any UCS family that would like to go to a soccer game for FREE (6 tickets max) needs to come in or call the office at 970-673-4997 and ask for tickets. You must pick up the tickets, they will not be delivered. Games are at the Future Legends Complex in Windsor. The three home games you can choose from are pictured. Please be sure you are able to attend one of the dates before you request tickets.
On September 12th, the soccer team, the Colorado Hailstorm visited our school. They showed us some of their skills, talked to the students about the rules of soccer and answered many questions. Ask your student what they learned from the visit. Maybe it is time to sign up for soccer!!
One on One
Julie Williford Brown, aka Ms. Brown, was kindly volunteered to go 'one on one' with the elite soccer players of the Hailstorm that visited our students and staff! Ms. Brown played semi professionally for the Oklahoma Outrage, Arizona Heatwave and Colorado Force. She played professionally with the Mexican National Team for two summers in Guadalajara. During all of this, she was going to tryouts/combines in various states (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Florida) around the U.S. to try out to play soccer in the 2012 London Olympics. Ms. Brown had fun and was honored to talk with some of the Hailstorm players. Such a fun schoolwide event! :)

We will be learning about all the continents throughout the year. Ask your student what they learned so far!
5th Grade Helpers
Several 5th grade students have been helping our new kindergarten students walk safely to their automobiles at the end of the day. These students understand the importance of being a good role model and student leader. They all received a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Sonic.
