UC wins ‘milk can’ rivalry over Winchester
The Indians kept the football in Falcons territory most of the first half, but could not finish a drive with a touchdown. Fortunate for UC their defense were able to stand their ground…as the game was scoreless at the half.
“We had opportunities to capitalize on several drives in the first half, but just couldn’t finish with six,” said UC Head Coach Mike Thompson.
Both teams were finally able to find the endzone in the third, as the game was tied 6-6 heading into the final quarter.
Union City penalties helped Winchester keep their drive alive and threaten to take a late-game lead. A fourth down redzone stop by the Indian defense gave UC the ball back and a chance to win.
“Very proud of our defensive effort tonight,” added Assistant Coach Neal Adams. “We really got after the ball tonight.”
Following a big run by senior running back Cameron Vincent, he broke the goal line for his second touchdown of the night to slam the door on the Falcons and bring the milk can back to UC.
“It was a great win, but now we got to put all the distractions of the milk can aside and get focused on next week with Lincoln…who are big and aggressive. We got to come out and be ready to play,” Coach Thompson concluded.
