Husky Highlights
April 2021
Happy April!
The end of the school year is quickly approaching, and the students at HMS continue to work hard in the classroom as well as out on the track. We have over 50 students participating every day and are crossing our fingers the snow will stop soon so we can watch them compete. We did cancel our first meet scheduled in Homer and will let you know if we can get it rescheduled.
Thank you to our students and to parents for a 99% attendance rate for our PEAKS testing. We understand testing is not the favorite activity for students, but this data is used to assist with targeting curriculum. Additionally, this year’s 2021 PEAKS scores will be used as a baseline for next year’s growth mark. As the HMS principal, I am very excited to get our scores back at the end of the summer as I know our students and teachers have worked very hard this year and kept their focus on academics.
On April 8th, the District will host interviews for the HMS Principal Vacancy via Zoom starting at 4pm. The District values the input of our community and will also have an input form available. Both links are below and on the HMS Website.
On April 19th, our students will take the Hanover School Climate and Connectedness Survey. Students will have a voice to tell us their perspective of Homer Middle School. We use this information in our School Development Plan to target areas we many need to improve. We have received most of our positive permission slips back, but if you have not completed the form, please do so.
Thank you, again, for all of your support and please know we welcome your feedback and help making Homer Middle School an institute for success!

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT IS ALMOST SUMMER?!
It’s time to remind your teenager to “Play it Safe!” Bike helmets are a simple way to prevent many head injuries. Skateboarding helmets and gear prevent many more injuries. Simply getting an adequate amount of sleep (Middle school students need about 9 hours each night for peak performance at school!) and eating a healthy breakfast can help your child stay healthy. Set an example for your teen by putting on your own helmet, strapping on that personal floatation device, and taking care of yourself. Remember that actions speak volumes!
Helmets are also available at the Homer Fire Hall,
