Language Arts
We have added "she" and "was" to our Sight Word List and have been working hard on writing "Kk" this week and last. The Kindergarteners have also started to recognize "ck" at the end of words and have practiced writing and identifying that as well. Visualizing and sequencing continue to be key skills we work on while reading and listening to stories. Please practice rhyming and counting syllables at home while you read together at night. If you are reading at home don't forget to take advantage of Book It! Simply color in a book for every 20 minutes you read at home and return the reading log to school at the end of the month for your student to receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut!
Math
The Kindergarteners have enjoyed learning about what it means to join/add groups together, how to solve addition problems, and how to read and write addition sentences. This week we moved on to subtraction and what it means to "take away" instead of "join". Have some fun with this at home! For example, if your child is having a snack or playing with blocks, create and/or write simple addition or subtraction sentences (up to 10) and see if your students can solve them!
Social Studies
This week we began to discuss our culture and various others. Culture is what is worn, what is eaten, and what is celebrated. These things are different in all cultures! The students shared what holidays are observed in our culture, common foods that are eaten, and the differences in how people from our culture dress compared to other cultures in the United States/around the world.
