Important Reminders
Safety for our students is our number one priority! As a team, teachers, parents, and administration, we can work together to ensure all our students are safe and accounted for at all times.
We are experiencing many situations where parents are just showing up to pick up their child because they were texted by them. The students are walking out of class to leave and not notifying anyone when their parent arrives. Students are attempting to walk out the main school doors without notifying Ms. Barker or myself due to parents arrival notifications via text message. This is a genuine safety concern and students must be signed out by a parent in the main office.
Please review our board approved cellphone policy with your child. Cellphones need to be off and turned into their homeroom teacher each morning. Airpods or other wireless headphones are also not allowed to be used during the day.
If students need to call home or leave for any reason, they are to do so using the phone in the offices. Students have been informed they are welcome to do so at any time and for any reason. This support and communication is going to be most effective to ensure your child is safe at all times and we are aware of their absence for the reminder of the day.

Participation Points
Participation Points for Attendance and Participation Research shows that attendance has a significant impact on student performance. Therefore, AEA uses the following daily points in each class to reflect positive attendance and participation
Attendance
ATTENDANCE OHIO LAW REQUIRES STUDENTS TO BE IN ATTENDANCE EACH DAY THAT SCHOOL IS IN SESSION. Regular school attendance by all students is important. Research shows that attendance is strong indicator of academic success. Therefore, all students are urged to make appointments or complete personal errands on school holidays or after school hours. Students who are excessively absent (18+) days, both EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED may forfeit academic credit for individual classes per semester.
According to Ohio law (House Bill 410),
Habitual Truancy is defined in hours:
a. Absent 30 or more consecutive hours without a legitimate excuse.
b. Absent 42 or more consecutive hours in one month without a legitimate excuse.
c. Absent 72 or more consecutive hours in one year without a legitimate excuse.
Includes Excessive Absences:
a. Absent 38 or more hours in one school month with or without a legitimate excuse.
b. Absent 65 or more hours in one school year with or without a legitimate excuse.
Any students who demonstrate Habitual Truancy or Excessive Absences will be asked with their parent to participate in an absence intervention program.
If your child will be absent for any reason, please call the attendance line and leave a message
