Tackling Our HOT SPOTS
Happy Spring...well almost. First and foremost...thank you to everyone who participated this week in Read Across America. Mrs. Patty Hernandez really took on decorating for our week. So if you see her, please thank her for all of her hard work. I really enjoyed seeing everyone dress up and spread the love of reading throughout the campus all week.
Now on to our HOT SPOTS- I have been busy digging through all of the resources I have on file, NISD has provided us with and shared ideas from friends. I know I have emailed a few, but I have found some more. So please look through the ideas and see if it is something you find useful.
I will be placing a Comprehension/Inference Gallery Walk throughout the hallway near my room. You will find that I have taken copies of the first page of a book and pictures from magazines and paired them with comprehension and inferential questions. Swing on by and take a look at the questions before hand so you know what the answers are. :) When you are ready bring your class on by, I have some clipboards right by my door for the students to use.
Another fun idea I found is Reading Marathon, this idea takes the students through the process of reading a book and making connections, drawing inferences, creating summaries, the possibilities are endless. I encourage you to take the idea and tailor it to make it your own.
Here is a short poem you can use as a mini lesson or in a center to also focus on Inference, My Sister Ate an Orange.
Let me know how you will use the Reading Marathon and what genre you are thinking of using it for a Jeans Pass. Also, when you use it in your class I would love to come by and see what it looks like. I have used a similar idea with my groups and two kids have finished their project...it is currently hanging outside my room.
