We are about to ROCK with a two week unit on…..rocks!! We will learn about the three major groups of rocks. I've purchased 4 rock kits for each group to observe and to record their findings as a group. We will incorporate some Rockin' Math, and will make a rock pattern craft. I know our kids too…some will probably bring pockets full of rocks to school! We are going to rock out this week!

What's New in 2015!? Guided Math!
I spent a good amount of time preparing for new math instruction that will allow me to work with students in small groups of 4 or fewer. We've had math centers in the past, but it was strictly student centers. We will now have 4 math centers that the kids will rotate to daily. Each center will focus on the skill of the week and/or skills that need extra practice. The four centers will be 1) Math with Teacher 2) Math on an iPad 3) Hands-On Math 4) Math Journals. The students will be at each station for about 15-20 minutes. This week we will practice the procedures for our new math block. Students will learn what Guided Math is, what it looks like, what it sounds like, and how it feels. I will start working with students in small groups on Monday. I think this is going to be a great way for the students to build on their mathematical knowledge while allowing for small group interventions. Your kids are my kids too and I constantly want to improve their learning experiences.
