PfISD partners with APH on COVID-19 vaccines for students
COVID vaccines are now available to all persons aged 5 and up. PfISD has partnered with Austin Public Health and Travis County to provide vaccinations to our students at multiple locations across the district. ANY staff member, eligible PfISD student, and members of staff and students' families are welcome to come and get vaccinated.
These clinics are offering first dose, second dose, and now boosters.
- March 29 — The Rock Gym (4-6 p.m.)
* Additional vaccine clinics may be added. Once dates have been set, they will be added to the google form link for registration.
In order to plan for the number of vaccines at each clinic, PLEASE complete the Google Form linked below.
FEBRUARY 24 - MISSED INSTRUCTION
We have closely reviewed our district calendar and the instructional minutes lost during the inclement weather on February 24. At this time, PfISD students will NOT have to make up the day. When creating the 2021-2022 calendar, district officials built-in minutes to be used for any lost instruction.
District officials are bringing a resolution before the Board of Trustees on March 31 to approve wages for all PfISD employees (both hourly and salary employees) which would otherwise be lost due to the closure.
Greetings from Dr. Killian
Dear PfISD Parents & Guardians,
This past weekend, our wonderful Pflugerville Education Foundation (PEF) had their annual gala on Saturday. It was another record-setting event for the PEF, with the Foundation raising more than 150% of its goal. I was honored to attend to thank our donors, but I also wanted to thank the PEF members, officers and committee chairs for their amazing work.
Our Foundation officers and staff have done a phenomenal job these last two years, not just with this event, but with everything during hard times for any nonprofit. They pulled together during a pandemic, changed their events, and even with a change in the organization's executive director they continued to raise funds and support our teachers and staff. President Kelly Daniel, her officers, committee chairs and members are to be commended. Our staff, Jennifer Fry and Linda Medina-Lopez, were super, too. Jennifer (our PEF development specialist), was priceless and essential over the transition, and our new PEF executive director, Linda Medina-Lopez has been a blessing for the district.
I also wanted to give a shout out to former Foundation President Michel Hudson who has been named the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Greater Austin Chapter for her work on behalf of the Pflugerville Education Foundation. She stepped in to assist in a time of need and took on the challenge to help the foundation during absences and transition.
Words can do no justice to the contributions provided to the Foundation by these fine folks. We thank you for standing up for our staff, kids and community.
The weather has started to improve lately, and it looks like we may be past the freezing temperatures our Texas brings each year. I’d like to thank everyone who lent a hand when temperatures may have led to issues on-campus, this year and last. From our campus administrative team to our teachers and staff, who had to adjust when water lines broke or lights went out, thank you. A special thanks goes out to our maintenance staff for their hard work in responding to facility emergencies.
Our Career and Technical Education department hosted its annual REAL World Pflugerville Career Connections event on Thursday at Typhoon Texas. This annual event allows us to team with the Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce to provide valuable insight to our students on the local workplace and higher education options available to them. Due to the pandemic, REAL World has been on hold the past two years, so it’s especially nice to be able to see it back on again this year.
Also, our Fine Arts department has theater students prepping for their one-act plays, dance students handling auditions and performances, and band and orchestra working on performances. Best of luck to all students and staff involved in those endeavors.
I’d also like to thank everyone involved in the upcoming college and military fair taking place at Pflugerville High School on Tuesday, March 8. Thank you for your hard work for the benefit of our students.
Have a great rest of the week and a super weekend.
In the best interest of children,
Douglas Killian, Ph.D.

Substitute Teachers Needed
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, PfISD needs more substitute teachers than ever. Beginning substitutes earn $120 per day, and this can go up based on certification and the number of days worked. To qualify to serve as a substitute in the Pflugerville Independent School District, you must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma. All applicants must complete the online substitute application and attend a Guest Educator orientation.
Athletics Update
Weiss Boys Basketball is still alive in the playoffs after defeating Anderson on Monday night to advance to the Regional Tournament. The Wolves take on Aldine on Friday night hoping to get a pair of wins and advance to state.
The Hendrickson Lady Hawks saw their season come to an end in the final of the girls regional tournament. Hendrickson had another great season, coming one win shy of reaching the UIL State Championship Tournament. Coach Sierra, her staff and student-athletes should be very proud of all they accomplished this season.
Next week is the final week of soccer season, and we have teams fighting for district titles. Hendrickson's girls currently lead their district and Weiss is right behind them in second place. On the boys' side of the pitch, Connally leads the standings. If the season ended today, PfISD would sweep the boys' playoff spots with Hendrickson in 2nd, PHS in 3rd and Weiss 4th.
Our baseball and softball teams continue playing their nondistrict schedules and have lots of tournaments on the slate before starting district play. Track and field season is back in action now, and if you drove by PHS on Wednesday night you may have seen a lot of traffic for a middle school track meet at Kuempel Stadium.
I also want to take a minute to thank the Connally Girls Soccer team, led by Coach Jessie McCartney. These ladies held a Favorite Teacher & Staff Night for their game earlier this week. Each player invited a current or former teacher who impacted them during their academic journey in PfISD. It was a great event and I know all the teachers felt loved.
CTE Corner
In this week’s CTE Corner, we want to highlight two programs that provide our students with exciting opportunities to learn about the fast-paced world of business. It's also appropriate we highlight these programs during March, which is National Credit Education Month.
Accounting and Financial Services
In this program, students can learn & practice industry-standard accounting principles, and earn the QuickBooks Certified User certification or Certified Insurance Service Representative certification, at no cost. Accounting is available at all high school campuses; Insurance Services is a specialized program only available at PHS.
Business Management
In the Business Management program, students learn laws & regulations, and industry practices to manage business operations & transactions in the business & finance industry. Students can earn the Microsoft Office Excel & Word Specialist certifications, as well as earn college credit, all at no cost.
Students have the opportunity to earn Industry-Based Certifications, complete work-based learning, internships, and even earn dual credit while enrolled in CTE programs. They can also join clubs and groups associated with their respective programs. This week, students from the Weiss High School Business Professionals of America attended the Texas BPA State Leadership Conference. While at the conference, 8 of the 10 students signed up for BPA internships!
