Change Check-Up:
What were some of the changes that you wanted to see?
How's it going? What is working? What are challenges?
Some reminders about change:
1. All student change (behavior or academic) demands a change in adult behavior
2. For systemic change it needs to happen at all (3) levels:
- personal level (in their classroom/on their own)-new habits
- social level (PLC, grade level teams, with coaches) and
- system level (school-wide/district-wide processes and supports)
3. People mess up. Encourage principals to work with their teachers to come up with a Plan B for when the process isn't followed or an acceptable alternative. Might it look different in different buildings or at different levels?

These activities include a classroom activity, a school-wide activity and a parent/family engagement activity. Themes will vary for each month and can be incorporated into existing school initiatives. Elementary Principals will be given information at the upcoming Elementary Principals' Meeting on Friday, February 21st. 2020 School Wellness Award
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announces the launch of the 2020 School Wellness Award. The award encourages Michigan schools to promote physical activity, healthy eating, and tobacco/nicotine-free lifestyles for students and staff. The Michigan School Wellness Award recognizes and applauds schools working to create healthier school environments by establishing School Health Teams, completing the Healthy School Action Tools (HSAT) assessments and action plan, and implementing sustainable policy and environmental changes. All Michigan K-12 public and non-public schools are eligible to apply. The School Wellness Award will recognize schools committed to increasing student achievement with a healthier school community. Award winning schools will be recognized in May 2020 during a ceremony at the state capitol with local legislators.
The MDHHS, in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Education, United Dairy Industry of Michigan, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Action for Healthy Kids invite schools to apply for the award by April 16, 2020.
