About Christianity
Christianity started two thousand years ago in Judea, what we know now as Israel. The main two events that Christians celebrate are Christmas and Easter. We celebrate Christmas because that was the day God sent down his saviour, his son, Jesus. Jesus performed many miracles. He made the blind see and the paralysed walk. Jesus taught every person that he could about God, and that he really was the saviour that God had promised for hundreds of years.
Lots of people followed Jesus, which made the local religios leaders and Romans who were leading the country at the time angry. They arrested him and setenced him to death by crucifixion. Before he died , Jesus gathered together his diciples and had a dinner with them. After the dinner, Jesus gave his disciples each a piece of bread and a glass of wine, saying that the bread and wine was his body and blood. He reminded them to do this every time they got together in rememberence of him. The next day, Jesus was taken to a place where there were three croses. The two on both sides had criminals hanging from them by there hands, but the one in the middle was empty. This was the one for Jesus. The Romans and religious leaders nailed him to the cross by his hands. Then then they pushed a crown made of thorns around his head and gave him water to drink from a sea sponge. But he was to weak to drink anything.
That was the way Jesus died. When the diciples heard that Jesus was dead, they thought that all was lost. On the third day a lady went to the cave to put some nice smelling flowers next to Jesus, when she saw his body was missing! She ran out of the cave when an angel came down from heaven and landed infront of her. "Do not be alarmed, Jesus has risen from the dead!". Then the angel flew back into the sky. Jesus had indeed risen from the dead. He was with his diciples, showing them the holes in his hands where they had nailed him to the cross. Then a cloud opened up above Jesus and he started rising into the sky, into heaven. Christians belive that one day, Jesus will come down to earth again.
