How much water does the average American household use per day? Per month?
Per Day (Per Person): Estimates vary, but each person uses about 80-100 gallons of water per day.
Per Month: It may vary but each family uses about 8,000 gallons and a leaky faucet can waste up to 300 gallons
3 Ways to Conserve your Water:
Your Yard
Let your grass get brown in the winter instead of watering it to keep it green all year round.
Brushing your teeth
Turn off the water while brushing your teeth and save up to 40 gallons a minute. That's up to 200 gallons per week for a family of 4.
Dishes
Instead of letting the water run to get rid of the excess food fill the pot with water all the way and let the dishes soak in water and then scrub the dishes.
How much Water will you save by doing these things?:
Gallons saved!:
Brushing Teeth: 3 gallons each day
Dishes: If washing by hand, use the least amount of detergent can save 50-150 gallons a month.
Your Yard: Set lawn mower blades one notch higher. Longer grass means less evaporation. Saves 500 to 1,500 gallons each month.
