EJMHS News
November 20, 2020
Dear East Jordan Families,
We have transitioned yet again to a new format of school at EJMHS. Following the directive issued by the State Health Department, 9th-12th grade students are learning from home while 7th-8th grade students are attending face to face. This is a major change for both students and staff, and we are working to provide the best educational experience we can for all of our learners, either face-to-face or remotely. We appreciate your patience with us as we implement our new schedule and utilize new technology, and we are grateful for your assistance with your child’s engagement in remote learning. Below are some expectations and suggestions to help your child be successful. You can also find the RED/BLACK day schedule we are currently following both remotely with our 9th-12th graders as well as in-person with the middle school students.
Remote Learning -
9th-12th Student Expectations:
Know and Follow the schedule below - EVERY DAY. Falling behind in a remote environment is harder to catch back up than when in person.
Attendance is being taken each class period. This will be done during the synchronous (live teaching) portion of the class period. Students who do not report to the synchronous part of class and/or fail to communicate with the teacher are marked absent.
Check your grades in Powerschool at the end of EACH day - Identify any missing assignments
Communicate with your teachers - let them know
If you have turned in assignments that are marked missing
If you are having issues connecting
If you are struggling with content
Teachers will respond to emails/phone calls within 24 hours during normal school hours.
Complete Assignments ON TIME - see above regarding falling behind.
Check your school email and login to your Canvas account daily.
Parent Expectations:
Prepare a learning space free of distraction, it is a good idea to put the phones away and turn off the television.
Ask your student about their learning. Take 5 minutes to have your student show you their grades in Powerschool, their favorite lesson/assignment and the hardest part of their day.
Help students set aside “normal school day hours” to be a student.
Encourage your student to turn their computer camera on will increase their participation and help them in being active in class discussions. Make sure students are dressed appropriately as if they are attending school and that they are in an environment so turning their camera on is not a distraction for them.
Communicate concerns with teachers. Teachers will respond to email/phone calls within 24 hours during normal school hours.
*Special Education Students may still attend face to face to receive services. Please contact your student’s Special Education teacher to arrange a schedule that works for you, your student and their teacher.

7th-8th Graders Attending Face to Face -
Take advantage of the MS study hall time on scheduled Black days to do homework and get help if you need it.
Targeted Interventions will be used to support struggling students.
Students in our Title VI program and students in the NACLA club will receive cultural and language enrichment opportunities in addition to study hall/academic support.
