Whitford Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 6 - 7 March 2018
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
I trust everyone had a relaxing long weekend and enjoyed some quality family time with your children. We were certainly blessed with wonderful autumn weather!
Staff Professional Development
Yesterday staff were involved in professional development workshops on the integration and implementation of Office 365 into the administration and teaching at our school. Facilitated by the Leading Lights team from CEWA and school staff from Padbury, St Simon Peter and Whitford Catholic Primary Schools, the day showed the power of team transformation and innovation. It was an excellent day for staff working in all areas of the school.
Carpark Update
Many thanks to Brendan Long for coordinating the clean-up of Albion Park and the realignment of the fencing in this area on Saturday morning. Parents and children who assisted did an amazing job. Please refer to the thank you notice from Brendan.
“Last week I placed a call for volunteers to assist with some remedial works on Albion Park. I now take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to Tamara McGougan, Barry Alport, Laurie Cream, Lloyd Gorman, Andrew and Giselle Dunlop and Ian and Trish Plummer for giving up their time, it was also great to see their children pitching in and lending a hand. This small amount of work has made a remarkable improvement to the appearance of Albion Park and on behalf of the School, the School Board and the wider School Community I thank you again.
King Regards,
Brendan Long | Board Chair”
The school Architect and Quantity Surveyor have assessed and quantified the balance of work to be completed and are currently finalizing documentation required to proceed with the project. Many thanks to all involved in this process.
Kindest regards and best wishes for a wonderful week.
Tamara McGougan

Uniform Update
Project Compasssion
This week’s story introduces us to Evangeline from Australia. Evangeline is strengthening Aboriginal culture, while making a living for herself and creating opportunities for her community.
Her work at Djilpin Arts has supported the organisation’s growth from a multi-media project to a multi-level contemporary arts and culture centre. An example of excellence in Indigenous tourism, it’s now a key employer for young people in the remote Northern Territory community of Beswick (Wugularr).
This year, in 2018, Evangeline is busy guiding tourists, coordinating cultural activities and helping community members to practise and market their arts, such as weaving and jewellery-making.
Evangeline’s career has flourished and she has become an inspirational youth leader. Evangeline says that Caritas Australia’s support for Djilpin Arts, through Project Compassion, is vital for all Wugularr’s young people. Although their families do their best to pass on knowledge, Elders are dying and she is keen to spearhead the preservation of culture and lore for future generations.
“It’s good for them to learn and to keep their culture strong,” Evangeline says.
This opportunity has helped me turn my life into something more positive. It makes me more confident and more independent." – Evangeline
Project Compassion total summary
So far we have raised $550 from our Project Compassion. Well done to the Year 6 students who are leading by example and have raised over $300 themselves. A special mention must be made to Aleena Veljanoski who individually raised over $200 for Caritas. We are still 4 weeks away from Easter so let’s keep the fundraising efforts going strong.

Kids of Mercy
Kids of Mercy: The children were very excited last week with four of them visiting for the very first time. Josie from Year 1 was extra excited about visiting her Great Grandmother, Nanna Josephine. We also had the ladies seeing double by taking two sets of identical twins. The lounge is hardly big enough for all the excited ladies and the chatty children.
