Materials Update
Fundations and Foldes-Still waiting and no update to date.
Time for Kids-This was ordered in June, but it got caught up in the approval process. Jeanine is monitoring this and working to get these materials here ASAP.
Measure G Updates
During the summer our Measure G worked consisted of demo and replacing of the poured in place (PIP) playground soft fall material for the playground closest to the Science Room. The second playground with the wood chips, closest to the field, was demoed and the delivery of the base rock and heavy equipment was completed before school started. The construction team has completed the concrete pour and everything is nearly ready for the soft fall turf contractor to come. However, when all the bark was removed the project manager and I discovered that the paint on the bases of the playground structure was very chipped. We decided that it was in the best interest of the project to do a quality job and repair the chipped paint before the turf is brought in. This will extend the project by an additional week. I will continue to provide updates as they are available.
Upcoming Jensen Measure G Work:
- Proposed Library, Resource Room and staff room/office reconfiguration to increase function and improve use of space
- Painting-new exterior color scheme
- Staff parking lot solar array/panels in parking spaces closest to the school.
You will be kept up to date as more information becomes available. If you have any questions, please let me know.

The Castro Valley Unified School District and the Castro Valley Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to celebrate Castro Valley’s Chicken Ranch Heritage at the 2019 Castro Valley Fall Festival. All interested CVUSD Elementary Teachers are invited to have their students create a piece of art about a Rooster, Chicken, Superhero Rooster, or Superhero Chicken theme and have it displayed at the Castro Valley Fall Festival.
The theme for this year is Roosters, Chickens, or Superhero Roosters, Superhero Chickens
Below are inspirational images and links to resources to help you create an art lesson plan.
Be sure to tour this website for tutorials and all sorts of info on Arts Education

Character Day: Something to Consider for the End of September
Character Day is September 27 - 28 this year!
Chabot has been participating in Character Day for the last 3 years and found it important to their MTSS work. I am wondering if we are interested in signing up to be a part of Character Day. Preview the information and we will make a decision by our 9/3 staff meeting.
The information/links below are just some of the beginning resources provided.
Preview the Character Day films:
- The Science of Character (8mins)
- The Making of a Mensch (10mins)
- Connected (feature-length film)
Mark your calendars for Sept 27-28:
This year's Character Day has a new 2-day model:
- Day 1 (Friday, Sept 27): We recommend setting aside anywhere from one hour to a full day. We provide short films, robust discussion materials for all ages, and a Global Live Stream featuring live events and speakers from all different fields that you can tap into throughout the day, or anytime thereafter. You create an event that works for you (anytime, any size, anywhere). The first day ends in a global unplug (turning off all screens).
- Day 2 (Saturday, Sept 28) People around the globe gather as families and friends to unplug, to reconnect to each other and nature, to go back in time before smartphones, and to focus on cultivating character. While you're welcome to plan events for both days, it's likely more of your "planning" will go to the first day, which will equip you and all of your participants with information and tools of why there's a connection between character and screens, and how to make the most of an "unplugged" day.
-Discussion Kits:
Some online and printable discussion materials are available now.
-Explore the Character (Every) Day Resource Hub:
This resource hub has over 5,000 curated pieces of content that sites can filter by type of content (films, books, websites, games, apps, and lesson plans), character strength (perseverance, kindness, empathy, humor, gratitude, etc), and age.

Hispanic Heritage Month Resources
September 15 begins national recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. As with the recognition of all groups, we will take some time to think about ways to recognize the culture, history and contributions of Latinos today and throughout history. Here is a link to a folder that we have created for you to share any resources that you have. By sharing good resources, we can assist teachers in finding good materials to use in their classes.
Hispanic Heritage Month is the period to recognize the contributions, culture and history of Hispanic Americans and Latinos from across the globe. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988 on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They all declared independence in 1821. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Public Law 100-402 authorizes and requests the President to issue an annual proclamation designating September 15 through October 15 as “Hispanic Heritage Month”
