From Your Stated Clerk

If you were going to write a serious musical work about Jesus, where would you start and what would be your focus? Most of us would start with the basic Gospel message, including the fulfillment of prophecy as Matthew does. We'd want to include what Jesus said and taught, where he went and what miracles he performed. Of course His death and resurrection are critical events to include. But in Handel's Messiah, with the Scriptures chosen by Charles Jennens, we get very little of Jesus' actual life and activities. Instead, we hear God's words from His prophets written centuries before Christ was born. The basic Christmas story is presented, but then we hear of His great sacrifice as the Lamb of God who took away our sin. Finally, we get to start the celebration as His Kingship is recognized. There will be rebellion but God is in control and our own resurrection is announced. The final statement of the Lamb who alone was worthy to redeem us to God sums up the whole story.,

This weekend our choir, with guests, is again presenting Handel's Messiah Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. This glorious music will fill the sanctuary and will surely lift your spirits as we enter the Advent season. Tickets are available at the door and we look forward to sharing this music with you.

Blessings,

Ron K

Sponsor a Haven Beauty Bag TODAY!!

As part of our 2021 Christmas Tea event, we are asking everyone to consider sponsoring all or part of a beauty bag that we will be delivering to Haven in Mid-December.

Per Haven, they have very specific guidelines as to what can be donated. Due to these guidelines and wanting all of the ladies to be able to get equal gifts, the Gathering Team decided that we would pre-purchase items to fill 40 bags for the ladies. We are asking attendees of the Christmas Tea and the rest of the congregation to consider sponsoring all or part of a bag.

Donations can be made to the OLCC,P with “Christmas Tea – Haven Beauty Bag” in the Memo.

Advent Bible Study

You are invited to deepen your Advent journey in this three week study called From Longing to Receiving led by Rev. Marjorie Wilhelmi. Through your own personal reflection, small group discussion, and a variety of spiritual practices may you discover a God who overturns expectations, fills our past longings and inspires our future commitments.
