Staff Newsletter

Week of February 5, 2018

Dear Staff,

We made it! With the passing of the SuperFull Moon and a bit of craziness last week- we can start a new week and make it awesome! With the start of the first full week in February, we're turning our attention to kindness and the importance of relationships we make with each other and our students. With Valentine's Day around the corner, students will show up ready to share kind words and cards with their classmates and teachers. It has us thinking about how the simple act of a note or kind word can mean so much to someone else. Knowing that someone cares about you can make all the difference in a difficult situation. The relationships we have and the care we show for our most challenging students can have the largest impact in making a positive difference. One of my favorite Ted Talks of all time is Rita Pierson's Every Kid Needs A Champion, and even if you've seen it before- I'd encourage you to take a moment to watch it again. Watching this always helps me press pause, get my mind right, and step up with a renewed sense of purpose to make a positive impact. Sometimes the students who need the most love will ask for it in the most unloving ways. Our response, our care, and the connections we make with our students can change the trajectory for our kids. Thank you for all you do each and every day to be a champion for our kids. Never forget we are here to support all of you every step of the way. We are so blessed by all of you~Look for a special treat and surprise this Friday- as a small token of our kindness and gratitude!

News to Share

1. Battle of the Blizzards is back! For those of you that are not sure what this event is, let's recap it. On February 5th, 6th, and 7th from 4:30-7:30 PM, students will be invited to attend Battle of the Blizzards at Dairy Queen located on Route 62. Once there students can vote for their favorite Grade Level Blizzard (which are specially designed by our amazing grade level teams) to win the Golden Scoop! Dairy Queen donates 20% of sales back to the school. Teachers are invited to volunteer or bring their own family to Dairy Queen to help serve Blizzards, talk with students or just jump in and help! If you are interested in volunteering, click here. We hope to see you there!

2. Dublin Sparks- Jump Rope Performance and Jump Rope for Heart Assembly is rescheduled for Tuesday 2/6. The first performance will be at 9:15am for S Wing and E Wing , and R Wing and I Wing to report at 9:55am (we will make an announcement for the second group to report, as soon as the gym is cleared from the first group).* Please note 6th grade classes from I-Wing will report to the first assembly with E-Wing in order to allow for consistent class schedule.

3. We are so fortunate to receive funds through the generosity of the McCoy Foundation to bring Columbus Opera to perform for NAIS. This a special opportunity for our students to experience this highly developed art form and we are very appreciative.

When: Tuesday, February 13

9:20 - S and I Wings

10:30 - E and R Wings.

Where: McCoy Arts Center

The performances are 40 minutes. Specials schedules will not be interrupted. Specialists will meet your classes at the McCoy, that morning.

4. Valentines Exchange/Activities. As a reminder, we are not having Valentines Day parties with visitors and food. However, each grade level has decided to do a slightly different activity which may allow for the exchange of valentines cards and or kindness notes/activities. This will be discussed/finalized at tomorrow's team leader meeting, if you haven't already finalized plans within your grade level team.

As a followup to Scott’s email you received last Wednesday, we are sending home MAP results for all students and InView results for grades 4 and 6 this Friday in the students’ backpacks. If any students qualified as gifted, Joe will give you additional information to send home with the test results. You will need to print your students’ MAP results (directions here). Scott will provide a cover letter for you to attach to the MAP results as well as your InView results early this week.
