Principal's Message
I hope everyone had a restful and rejuvenating holiday break!
DCSD has made several changes in response to an increase of positive COVID cases in DeKalb County and the Metro-Atlanta area. I wanted to provide the information and offer clarity.
If you’re curious or have questions about protocol for isolation, quarantine, close contacts, etc. the Readiness Guide is linked for your reference.
Please be sure to report any positive cases and/or exposures to me via email at michelle_perez@dekalbschoolsga.org.
Let’s make a collective effort to minimize the spread of COVID by following our mitigation strategies and keeping students at home when they’re ill. It takes a village and we are a family. Let’s finish the year strong!
Here is the daily breakdown:
Frequently Asked Questions
Virtual Learning
What does my child need to do to prepare for virtual learning this week?
- Please have them charge their device, turn it on to ensure it is working, and verify that they can successfully login. On Tuesday after 4:10pm, they can verify that all of their classes are listed in Google Classroom.
What if my child does not have all their classes in Google Classroom?
- Email the teacher of the class they are missing first. If you do not receive a response by Wednesday at 8:35am, email Ms. Natalie Cowart at natalie_cowart@dekalbschoolsga.org.
How does my child join the live session?
- When they enter the specific class period within Google Classroom, there is a link to join (pictured below in red). Please know, teachers will only activate this link at the start of class time.
What is the bell schedule?
- The bell schedule is linked here.
How will teachers take attendance?
- Teachers take attendance within the first 10 minutes of class. Please be sure students are logged in and active within the live session to be marked present.
What if my child is sick or unable to attend classes?
- Please email the teacher so make-up work can be provided. When your child returns to school, have them turn in a signed note to the attendance office to have the absence changed.
Can I sign up for virtual learning for the remainder of the semester?
- Our sign-up window for virtual learning has closed.
Technology
What if I did not receive a call or email about Chromebook pick-up?
- If you did not receive information by 4:10pm on Monday, please email William Shrader at William_s_shrader@dekalbschoolsga.org.
Can my child use their personal computer?
- Yes! Please have them verify they can login successfully before Wednesday.
What if my child’s device does not work properly?
- If the malfunction allows for your child to participate in classes successfully (e.g. missing key, volume button is loose), please have your child report the malfunction to their 1st period teacher when they return to school. If the malfunction does not allow for your child to participate in classes (e.g. does not power on), please contact William Shrader at William_s_shrader@dekalbschoolsga.org.
Scheduling
My child’s classes changed, why?
- Most students will be changing their connection and PE/Health blocks:
1st and 2nd period for 8th graders
(Please be reminded 3rd period swapped with 1st period for 8th graders only)
4th and 5th period for 7th graders
6th and 7th period for 6th graders
How do I view my child’s schedule online?
- Click here for a guide to the parent portal instructions and how to view the schedule.
Can I request a schedule change?
- Our schedule change request window is closed. Students rotate through randomly selected connection courses every 9-weeks and we are unable to make changes due to class balancing.
