The Golf Squad is coming to SVES!
When: Fridays from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm

"The Golf Squad at Sunset Valley Elementary is for both new and continuing students and provides weekly opportunities for your child to learn social skills required to enjoy golf, the clubs, and golf course (i.e. vocabulary, etiquette, rules, history, etc.) all under the instruction of a PGA Professional. Golf is a very challenging and fun sport that can lead to college scholarships. So start early and start now...boys and girls! Even if your child already plays, it is great to enjoy weekly, convenient lessons from the pro. Brown Bag Luncheon
Join Dr. Reid for Brown Bag on Thursday, Feb. 23
Parents and community members throughout Keller ISD are invited to Sunset Valley Elementary to chat with Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid at his monthly Brown Bag Lunch event, scheduled for 12:00 pm, Thursday, February 23 in the Sunset Valley ES Library. Brown Bag Lunch events are held at a different KISD campus each month and are hosted by the respective school’s PTA.
Bring your lunch, and join Dr. Reid as he shares the latest District news and answers your questions – we’d love to see you there!

The 2017-2018 School Year
News about the NEW Middle School
Our CURRENT 4th & 5th grade students will STILL be attending the new middle school for the 2017-2018 school year. These students (our current 4th & 5th graders) will then continue at the new middle school all the way through their 8th grade year. Jennifer Fleming, KISD Director of Counseling and our counselor Jennifer Cowen will be working with our current 4th and 5th graders to help them with their transition to our new middle school.
Board Approves 2017-18 Instructional Calendar
The first day of school for the 2017-18 academic year will be Tuesday, August 15, 2017, with the last day of school scheduled for Thursday, May 24, 2018.
The changes to the calendar are a result of the Board's January 19th approval of the Keller ISD District of Innovation Local Innovation Plan which has a term of five years, affords greater levels of flexibility, and provides exemptions in 10 areas including the state mandated calendar start date.
In addition to Labor Day on Monday, September 4, 2017, KISD will observe district-wide holidays:
- Fall Break - November 20-24, 2017
- Winter Break - December 18, 2017-January 2, 2018 (Students will not return until Jan. 4)
- Martin Luther King Day - Monday, January 15, 2018
- Spring Break - March 12-16, 2018
- Friday, March 30, 2018 (Bad Weather Make-Up Day)
Additional Student Holiday/Teacher Professional Development Days will be held:
- Monday, October 9, 2017
- Monday, November 6, 2017
- Wednesday, January 3, 2018
- Monday, February 19, 2018
- Monday, April 16, 2018
The District will also observe the following Early Release Days:
- Thursday, December 14, 2017 (9th-12th grade, Final Exams)

Filing for Board of Trustees Candidates Jan. 18-Feb. 17
Keller ISD Board of Trustees Places 4 and 5 will be up for election the spring of 2017, and interested candidates can file January 18 through February 17 for a place on the ballot.

Trustees are elected to three-year terms and must be 18 years or older and a resident within Keller ISD.
Election Day is Saturday, May 6, 2017, with Early Voting taking place April 21-May 2.

Crossing Guard Needed at Horseman & Canchim Street
This crossing guard position is with the City of Ft. Worth but the individual will be assigned to Sunset Valley Elementary. Coach Dunson has been volunteering for this position since the beginning of the school year. This job has been posted with the City of Fort Worth but has not had any interested applicants so far. I am reaching out to you to see if you would be interested and I am asking that if you have a friend or neighbor that might be interested to please pass along the information. Here are some details about the position.
- Part-time (3 hours a day - 1 1/2 hours in the morning & 1 1/2 hours in afternoon)
- Monday-Friday
- $7.49 an hour
- 15 hours average per week
- Equipment and training provided
- Crossing school students/pedestrians
- Helping kids & families right here in our own neighborhood
