Waggoner Road Junior High Legends
November Edition 1
Message From Dr. Black
NO SCHOOL TUESDAY NOV. 5 - WE WILL SEE THE STUDENTS ON WEDNESDAY!
We have begun our second semester. Students have received their first report card and thus we are all becoming aware of the areas in which we need to work harder to ensure our students are appropriately preparing themselves for high school. Parents please make sure your are checking in on PowerSchool (note: Canvas is going away). If you need assistance on how to navigate Powerschool talk to your students teachers, they can help you become more familiar. Check in with your students to see where they need assistance and help them to meet educational deadlines. Lets continue to work together as a team to move our students to the next level.
GROW WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED!
GENERAL INFORMATION
Disrespect
Please talk to your students about respecting their teachers. We have noticed an increased amount of profanity and students who are feeling as though they can be openly non-compliant when requested to do things by the teachers. It takes all of us parents, teachers, and administrators to curve this behavior. Within the school we are working on modeling techniques/activities and as we already have in place, incentives for corrected behaviors. We are asking parents to support us in enforcing this expectation, else we will unfortunately have to send those who are repeatedly violating home on school removals for disrupting the school environment.
Concerns
Cellphone/Earbud Policy
We understand that technology is presently a commonality within our society and thus we have permitted our students to utilize their cell phones during specific times of the day. Students are not permitted to have their cell phones and earbuds in-between classes. They are permitted to utilize their cell phones in class if the teacher allows them as a part of the lesson for the day. Additionally, students may use their cell phones during their lunch period but may not have earbuds or headphones on their neck or visible during that time. The only appropriate time for use of head phones is during class quite time, reading passages, or working through lessons at the direction of their teacher. Parents please note; should we have to confiscate cell phones, earbuds, or headphones for inappropriate usage, we will hold them in the office for parent retrieval.

BUS AND STUDENT PICK UP INFORMATION
THANK YOU, PARENTS!!!
We appreciate your help in making our lot safe. Please be continue to line your cars IN A SINGLE-FILE LINE. Remember to keep cars running and move forward as you wait for your student. This AGAIN keeps us from putting our children in danger should they need to walk through the lot.
When it begins to snow we will continue to line up in a single file line next to the plowed snow, utilizing the same process.
Here is a link to the map which shows how we will line the busses up.
FROM THE PTO
The next PTO Meeting will be Tuesday November 12th from 6:30-7:30 PM. We need as many parents as possible to participate as we work towards increasing our funds that go directly towards the students here at WRJH and their activities.
Anyone interested in donating items to the teachers for their dinner during Parent Teacher conferences, please contact the PTO president: hannahelijah1981@yahoo.com
TEACHER SPOTLIGHT
MRS. KELSIE NICKOLAS, DESIGN TEACHER
I graduated from Ohio University in 2013, where I majored in Management & Strategic Leadership and was a proud member of the Marching 110. After graduating from college, I spent several years working as an office manager in the Natural Gas industry. I enjoyed the nature of the work but did not feel completely fulfilled by the job. Having grown up in the Licking County 4-H program, I developed a love of learning and a passion for helping others so transitioning into the education field seemed like a natural step forward for me.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband, dogs, and family. We love to travel and try to go camping on most weekends. We also spend a lot of time on various "projects" around our house and the vintage camper that we are still working on remodeling.
