What is a greenhouse?
A building or part of a building that has glass walls and a glass roof and that is used for growing plants. The greenhouse will grow crops all season long even throughout the winter because the sunlight's rays will be trapped in and will keep the plants warm.
Why build one? What for?
We would grow our vegetables locally, we would use these vegetables for local food markets and our school cafe along with using recycled materials for the wrapping. It would save us money, fossil fuels and also reduce GHG emissions. Vegetables and other crops actually grow better in greenhouse's, also when it rains the plants wont drown as much. It's also very easy to take care of a greenhouse. Students can also grow knowledge about different soils and plant growth.
"Oh beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticide grain. For striped-mined mountains majesty above the asphalt plains America, American man sheds his waste on thee, And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea"
- George Carlin
Why should you help the cause?
We are all part of the problem!
We all contribute to the gradual increase of GHG emissions because of new industries and also because of carbon intake per household. It is estimated that 42% of GHG emissions are generally located in the USA. Canada makes up less than one half of one percent of the world's population, but is the world's eighth largest producer of greenhouse gases (702 million tons in 2011). Although we are ranked low in population numbers, we are ranked top high above our GHG emissions. We need solutions in order to reduce and fix climate change.
