October 2018
Message from the Superintendent
The month of October promises to be a busy one as well. Please make sure to view the Upcoming Events section of this newsletter for dates and activities. More information can be found on the district website and calendar.
I am thankful for the way that the Jessieville parents and community support our district, staff, and students. Your dedication to us is one of the things that makes this a great place to be.

Jessieville Voted #1 School
After-school Programs
On September 10, the after-school programs started in all Jessieville Schools. The goals of the 21st CCLC after-school programs is to help students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; to offer students a broad array of enrichment activities to complement their regular academic programs; and to offer literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.
Each program offers homework help and academic enrichment from 3:30 - 4:30 in all core areas. AP students have their teachers available for help during after school hours.
After the homework and academic enrichment time, JES offers classes that include dance (by a certified dance instructor), Monkeynastix, Muscles and Manners (an all boy class who are creating and building things around campus), and an AR Game and Fish presentation every Thursday. The presentations included: snakes of Arkansas, animal adaptations, birds of prey, and alligators!
Based on the survey last year, middle and high school students were interested in sports and physical activity time, so the JMS/JHS program offers tennis, basketball, croquet, and yoga this session. Arts and crafts classes (such as making bracelets and pillows), technology with Wii games, Makerspace, computer time, and open library hours are also being offered.
For the middle and high school students during the Spring semester, concurrent college courses through NPC will be offered on campus to our students and staff (and hopefully parents) free of charge. Hunters Education is being offered this fall and boaters education in the spring.

Take Your Legislator to School
Jessieville had the pleasure of hosting a breakfast and a Q&A session with State Senators Alan Clark and Bill Sample and Representatives Marcus Richmond and Mickey Gates for "Take your Legislator to School Month". Jessieville seniors had the privilege of asking questions related to what they are learning in their Civics class. It was a great educational opportunity, and we appreciate our legislators taking the time to speak with our students.
