Music Corner
Dear GHES Music families,
Our Winter Concert for band, strings, and chorus is scheduled for Thursday, December 14th, at 6:00 PM! If your child is in band, strings, or chorus, please put that date on your family’s calendar. Band, strings, and chorus students are required to attend the concert as part of their grade for those performing ensembles.
On Thursday night, students are to arrive back at the school by 5:15 PM. String students are to report to room 38, Mrs. Krause’s room, next to Cafeteria B, and band students are to report to room 11, Mr. Earley’s room, next to Cafeteria A. Students who are only in chorus are to report to room 38. Your child should wear a white shirt with black pants or skirt that falls below the knees while seated and black shoes.
Please keep this paper for reference, and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s music teacher. Thank you for all that you do! We look forward to your student’s performance!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kayla Krause

Counselor's Corner
The month of December brings us to the character trait of Gratitude. Gratitude means letting others know you see how they've helped you. There are so many things to be grateful for and it's important to express gratitude. Did you know that gratitude is associated with many mental and physical health benefits? "A 2019 study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies found that gratitude is is linked to happiness in children by age 5. This means that instilling gratitude in your kids at a young age could help them grow up to be happier people." Check out this link for additional information on the importance of gratitude in children. How to Teach Children Gratitude (verywellmind.com)
Have a wonderful holiday!

We’re back!!! For the 14th year! The GHES SAIL team is again partnering with St. Mary’s County Toys for Tots to provide new toys to families in need here in St. Mary’s County, including students here at GHES.
There are two ways you can support the GHES Toys for Tots Drive-
Option 1- Let us do the work! Give your monetary donation to Ms. Davis, in the office, between Nov 10- Nov 29th, and she will give you a receipt for your tax-deductible donation. We’ll also have a jar in the main office where you can leave donations. The SAIL classes use these donations to do the toy shopping for you. In early December, as part of our Community Based Instruction, we will go toy shopping at Wal-Mart. We practice math and social skills while shopping. All toys are donated to Toys for Tots in December during our pick-up celebration. Our students LOVE, LOVE, LOVE doing this for you!
Option 2- Bring a new, unwrapped toy between November 28 and December 6 and place it in the donation box near the main office. Toys MUST be new and unwrapped.
All donations to Toys for Tots made in St. Mary’s County will be given to families in St. Mary’s County. We thank you for your support in making this such a rewarding experience over the last 14 years. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Ash in rm 33. mlash@smcps.org
