ADL Charger News
May 18, 2020
Dear Parents and Families,
Greetings! I have several updates to share with you as we start the new week:
Surveys
Thank you for your feedback on our ADL parent/guardian distance learning survey. The school level data from this survey can be found here. Specific team level information has been shared with teachers for their continued planning and follow-up with individual families as necessary.
We also sent a student survey to our Chargers last Monday. Please encourage your student to check their email for this survey to complete if they have not done so already.
Attendance & Engagement in Distance Learning:
As students, families, and staff continue to experience high stress and unprecedented challenges during this school dismissal period, we have been working to ensure families have their basic needs met, and to wrap services around those who need more. We have narrowed the scope of our curricular goals during this period to focus on high leverage concepts and skills that are essential for future learning and grade level readiness for the next year. We continue to calibrate and improve our weekly distance learning plans to maximize our students ability to engage and complete their new learning at home. Student engagement in each of their core subject areas is recorded each week.
We are reaching out to students who are struggling to complete assignments, contacting their families, and providing additional support in every way that we can. While asking students to complete assignments during this time may seem like an additional stressor to some, it is actually more beneficial to students well-being to follow a schedule, stay connected with their school community, and engage their brains in important learning that will help them transition more easily to the next grade level in the fall. Our end of year progress reports will be focused on our students engagement and academic progress during this continuity of learning phase.
Memorial Day Observance
Every year, one of our traditions at ADL is to recognize those who have served during our annual Memorial Day assembly. Although we cannot be together in person for this event, we are planning a virtual assembly for this Friday, May 22nd at 9am. Students will receive a link invite later this week. Due to the way Google Meet works, we can only share the live stream to those who have an ewsd.org email address. However, we will record the event, and share that link with families. Many thanks to Mr. Sawyer and Mr. Tamayo for organizing this opportunity for our students!
Please note there will be no remote learning activities on Monday, May 25th. We will resume distance learning plans on Tuesday, May 26th.
Thank you for your support, and please continue to reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Wood
Principal
