TO ALL GPPSS FAMILIES:Vote November 6
There is no school for students on Tuesday, November 6. On that day, we encourage you to take your student to the polls and model the voting process, or discuss the ballot initiatives with them.
On the ballot is a School Bond Proposal. It is designed to:
Enhance student safety and school security
Make infrastructure improvements (roofs, boilers, HVAC)
Upgrade technology infrastructure (no student devices)
Projects fall into four main categories to keep students:
Safe - secure vestibules, cameras, PA systems, asbestos abatement, locks from inside classrooms
Warm - energy efficient HVAC (boilers, air handlers)
Dry - roofs, mechanical systems
Connected - technology infrastructure and classroom technology (no student devices)
Key Points:
To calculate your annual cost multiply 1/2 the market value of your home by 0.0015 (Example: $300,000 market value divided by 2 = $150,000 x 0.0015 = $225/year or $19/month)
The average age of a GPPSS school is 77 years.
100% of the funds raised stay in GPPSS for our students.
The district will continue to act as wise fiscal stewards. On 10/08/18 another clean audit was presented to the Board highlighting how fund equity has increased to our goal of 10%.
If you have questions or need more information, call any principal or call Superintendent Gary Niehaus at 313/432-3010.
More facts, including a line by line list of projects by school, are posted at www.gpschools.org - click School Bond 2018
Absentee ballots for the November 6th school bond election are now available.
Residents of the Grosse Pointe Public School System can cast an absentee ballot...
if they expect to be out of town on November 6th;
if they are 60 years of age or older;
if they are unable to vote without assistance at the polls; or,
if they cannot attend the polls due to religious reasons.
Registered voters can get an absentee ballot application online at www.michigan.gov/sos or simply go to the Clerk’s Office, complete an absentee ballot application, and vote--all in one five-minute stop.
You can avoid going to the polls and standing in line if you vote absentee. (That’s one reason we expect more absentee voters than normal in November.)
If you can’t vote by absentee ballot between now and November 5, please go to the polls on November 6th. In this election every vote will count.
If you have any questions or need more information about our school district’s bond proposal, please talk with me directly or call Superintendent Gary Niehaus at 313/432-3010.
Thank you!

Halloween Reminders: October 31st is a HALF DAY
Halloween Information
As plans are being made for Halloween, the following reminders will help to assist you in your planning.
¨ Toy weapons are not allowed.
¨ Violent costumes are not allowed.
¨ Please make sure costumes are safe and appropriate as students will be walking on stairs, around the school and neighborhood. Masks are not allowed for these safety reasons.
Our school Halloween Parade will begin at 8.45 am Weather permitting we will exit the building by the front door, walk down Cook Road then up the sidewalk toward the playground, continuing to the back/south entrance and reenter the building.
Parents, grandparents and others are welcome to stand outside along the parade route to view the many wonderful costumes our students wear. This helps to keep the walk
After the parade, students return to the classrooms for parties or an assembly.
The assemblies begin at 9:20 am for grades Pre-K - 2nd and at 10:30 am for grades 3 - 5.
Classroom parties are at 9:20 am for upper grades and 10:30 for lower grades.
All students will be dismissed for the day at 11:36 am.
We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween!
Drop off and Pick up Reminders
Drop off & Pick up:
Cook Rd. before Kindergarten sign: Kindergarten drop off is a moving line. Please pull up to the sign and drop off your students and continue to move so we do not have a stand still in the morning. Remember to have green signs in the window to help our 4th grade safety's know which car to open doors and help students out of cars.
Cook Rd. beyond Kindergarten sign: Please remember that Cook Rd. is a no parking zone we have the 4th & 5th grade students line up at the front door because they are older and know the routines at Monteith. Please just drop them off and allow the drop off lane to keep moving. If you need to park please park in the lot in a spot.
Chalfonte: Please make sure you are not parking right outside the entrance of the parking lot. Make sure you are not blocking traffic by making illegal turns in or out of the parking lot.
Parking Lot: Please do not get out of your car in the pick-up/drop off circle. Please do not park in the circle. If you would like to park please find a parking spot.
Please be nice to Mrs. Keelean, Mrs. Liagre and Mrs. Wang we are trying to keep the parking lot safe for all of our families. Drive with caution and be courteous we are a family at Monteith (even when traffic is involved.) Kindness Matters!
