District advises of modification in bus service for the 2022-23 school year due to driver shortage.
June 30, 2022
As you may already know, our district has been dealing with a significant shortage of bus drivers for quite some time. After implementing aggressive recruitment efforts and providing targeted increases in compensation, the shortage continues. However, our administration has been working on a variety of scenarios that will allow us to offer transportation services for the 2022-2023 school year. Upon evaluating all possible options, we believe the best decision is to implement a scheduled rotation of bus service.
Students who successfully enroll for services will be assigned a bus route through SMART tag. Transportation will be scheduled on a three-week rotation—two weeks with service followed by one week with no service. Rotation schedules will involve all bus routes excluding special services. While this may not be a popular decision, we believe it is the most equitable option in lieu of advising parents of last-minute cancellation of services. As we employ additional drivers, we will adjust the schedule accordingly.
Parents of students who are eligible for transportation will be able to register for services through Skyward Family Access beginning Monday, July 18, 2022. Parents will be able to obtain their child’s bus route and bus stop information via the SMART tag portal in August. In an effort to provide our families ample time to make alternate arrangements for transportation, rotation schedules will be posted on the LTISD Transportation Department webpage in August as well. Please be aware that most routes and route numbers will differ from the 2021-2022 school year. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.
We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we continue to do everything possible to safely and efficiently meet the expected increase in student ridership while addressing our driver shortage. If you or someone you know is interested in driving a bus for LTISD, we encourage you to contact our Transportation Department at 512-533-6070, or at davisr@ltisdschools.org. Our starting pay is $21.11 per hour, and no experience is needed. We provide all training and full benefits, and our drivers get holidays and summers off.
I hope you and your family have a safe and relaxing holiday.
Sincerely,
Brad Bailey
Assistant Superintendent for Operations

Accelerated Math for 2022-2023 5th Grade
Dear Parents and Guardians of 4th Grade Students at Lake Travis ISD:
Lake Travis ISD offers an accelerated course for 5th grade students who exhibit exceptional talent in the area of mathematics. Your child can test one time for acceptance into this program on one of the following dates: July 28, August 5, or August 16. Please note, the third date of August 16 is the first day of school, and it will be the final testing opportunity.
If you are interested in having your child tested for acceptance into the program, please complete the following form: 5th Grade Accelerated Math - Sign Up for Testing
Indicators your child may be a good candidate for consideration include the following:
- Has consistently made high marks in math classes in school thus far.
- Scored “Masters” on the 3rd Grade and 4th Grade Math STAAR exams.
- Picks up math concepts very quickly with very little assistance (i.e. upon one demonstration or explanation).
- Can manage a fast pace of instruction and associated homework.
- Understands and can apply math above his/her grade level.
This 5th grade accelerated mathematics course includes all of 6th grade and vertically-aligned 7th grade TEKS. Successful completion of this course allows students in 6th grade to begin middle school in the Honors 7th grade mathematics class (which includes 8th grade TEKS and vertically-aligned 7th grade TEKS) with other 7th grade students.
If your child qualifies for Accelerated Math in 5th grade, this would be a double-accelerated leap to 8th grade math TEKS in 6th grade, leading to Algebra 1 in 7th grade and Geometry in 8th grade. This math path would lead to a student being placed in Algebra 2 as a freshman at Lake Travis High School along with students from the sophomore and junior classes. The intent of this math path is for students who qualify to take higher-level math courses during their junior and senior years, not to finish their math requirements early to avoid taking math in the last two years of high school.
