Pathways Middle School - December 2020
A Word from the Captain
Happy Holidays!
We hope you are all doing well and are excited to continue to have students coming to school in person. I went around this morning to talk to each class about two important things:
First, we will continue to stay open for in-person learning as long as our district and Covid numbers allow. Students have been great with wearing their masks, but we need to keep working on keeping 6 feet from each other as much as possible. Our ability to keep our students 6 feet apart has contributed to our low exposure risk.
Second, we will be having our First Quarter IP Free celebration on December 18th (Team 1 Remote students can also attend that day). It will be a day when all students who are IP free (no In Progress Work) for first quarter can play laser tag, do art projects, play miniature golf, etc. Those who are not done will be finishing their work during that time. The last period of the day will be in their Study Skills class where all students (IP Free or not) will celebrate together. The deadline to turn in IP work for Quarter 1 is Friday Dec 11th, so encourage your student to demonstrate their learning by getting their work done!
Thank you again for all of your support and we all wish you a very happy holiday season!

Library Update
Staff, Students, and Parents,
Based on the new schedule that kids started this week, I've had to change the library hours so that I can see both Team 1 and Team 2 kids weekly. The library at Pathways will be open to check out books on Wednesday morning until 11:15 and Thursday afternoon from 11:30 until the end of the day. Books can be returned any time through the book drop. Students can check out up to 5 books and have them for 3 weeks at a time. Please encourage your students to continue reading!

Leader In Me
We are wrapping up our study of the second habit "Begin With the End in Mind". The lessons students have been studying in Study Skills have been focusing on the highly effective paradigm of: "Clearly defining my vision and purpose in life will make all the difference" vs. the ineffective paradigm of "I can't predict how my life will turn out, so I just go with the flow." At home, to engage your child in conversation, ask them if they have a personal mission statement or motto to guide their life choices. Ask them about any short-term or long-term goals they have thought about working towards. If you have your own mission statement or goals, think about sharing these with your child to model for them how you are using these tools to guide your adult life. Through these conversations, let us look for ways we can support each other.

In many cases, the companies are making their paid services free through the rest of the school year; in other cases, they're lifting limits to services and/or adding premium features to what's free.
