May Newsletter
Our last month together in the 2018-2019 school year!
From the Desk of A. Pruitt
As we move into May, I would like to congratulate our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who worked tirelessly during the month of April to complete TCAP testing in Math, Science, English and History. The online testing system worked with few glitches and we are almost done with make-up testing for students who missed any tests.
And while TCAP testing is complete, I strongly encourage our students to continue to show up and show out while we work to close out the school year. Parents, please make sure your students arrive to school on time and ready to continue learning new material until the last day of school. Some teachers will be preparing students for next year while others have prepared exciting units of brand new topics to make sure we are all growing through May 20th.
Beyond learning in the classroom during the fourth quarter, we have prepared many opportunities for our students to learn outside of the classroom. Students will be visiting community gardens, city hall, and much more in the month of May! Check the important dates at the bottom of this email for dates of our upcoming field trips. Even with field trips scheduled, please make sure you visit the website for important dates and login to the database to keep up with your child’s grades.
I finally want to reiterate my thanks to everyone who has made this year possible. To the parents of the students at MSE, without your long-standing support, our students would not have the tools necessary to come to school every day and work hard with academic rigor. To the students, thank you for persevering and showing up each day to try your best. To the staff, thank you for volunteering your time to not only make MSE one of the strongest academic schools in the Hickory Hill community, but also a fun place to work.
Looking forward to an even stronger 2019-2020 school year.

From Our Executive Director Muhammet Turkay....
Parents and students, I am writing today to let you all know that we are going to make one more change in the 2019-2020 school year to maximize outcomes for our students and our community.
After carefully considering the idea for months, we have decided to move the 8th graders to the Winchester location for the 2019-2020 school year. Currently, the Mendenhall building is at its full capacity. For the past several years, our wait list has been over 500 students, and this move will allow us the opportunity to serve more students and families.
Most importantly, we believe this will be a strong academic option for students. Our 8th graders will learn about college and start preparing for college even earlier in their academic career. Gifted 8th graders will have the opportunity to take classes for high school credit.
We understand that this will be a time of transition, but, after considering all our options, we believe it is the best move for students.
