MACK Move-A-Thon Pledge Funds due TOMORROW!!
In the mail, students should have received a M.A.C.K. MASK as a special thank you for participating in the Move-a-thon along with a stamped envelope to make it easy to return pledge sheets and money to school. There are 3 ways to return your donations:
Use the stamped envelope and send via US Mail.
Drop off your envelope before school in the drive-thru lane or use the mailbox outside the front office.
If your child is in-person, they can give the envelope to their teacher to turn in.
Questions? Please contact Kelly Schroeder (kschroeder@gusd.net) or Heidi Womack (heidiwomack33@gmail.com).

Great News!
Mountain Avenue is anticipated to be allocated site discretionary funds as part of the AB 86 Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) grant. We are forming a committee of all stakeholders to discuss the creation of a needs assessment. Once the needs assessment is created and administered to our Bear Families, we will remeet to review the data. If you would like to be part of this committee, please email Principal Scott at jrscott@gusd.net. The committee's first meeting will be on Tuesday, June 1 from 3:00 - 4:00 via zoom. Zoom link will be emailed on June 1st.
Our second meeting, to analyze the results is scheduled for Friday, June 11th at 8:30am.
Let's collaborate on a wonderful plan to support our students!

SEL Skill of the Week
This week Playworks is featuring a fun game that will help you identify problems and use problem-solving skills and creative thinking to solve it.
Social-Emotional Focus:
Using Your Voice – Learning to express yourself responsibly and communicate to be heard and understood.
Simplified Game Instructions
# of people to play: 3+
Best for ages: 5+
Setup/Teaching Time: 5 minutes
Equipment needed: None
Goal: To listen to and follow the leader’s directions.
Before You Start:
- Explain to students that everyone will be stepping away from their computers or other designated playing area, and that the goal is to make it to the finish line (their computer), but that they need to pay close attention and follow the leader’s instructions.
- Explain that when the leader says “Green Light,” everyone will move towards the finish line. When the leader says “Yellow Light,” everyone moves forward, but in slow motion. When the leader says “Red Light,” everyone must stop immediately and freeze.
- Explain that there will be three rounds of the game, all played with slight changes to the rules. Encourage them to pay attention to the rules of each round, as they will discuss them during the game debrief.
- Demonstrate to players the movement everyone will do when moving towards the finish line. Some examples include: walking feet, shuffling feet, hopping, etc.
How to Play:
- Begin with every player at their designated starting place. For example, 10 steps away from their computer/desk.
- Remind all students to come off mute, respectfully, because it will make the game more challenging and fun!
- Select one student to be the leader.
- In round one, the leader can not use any words – they will do different motions for “Green Light,” “Yellow Light,” and “Red Light.” The leader should make up the different motions for each.
- To start round one, the leader will do the motion for the command of “Green Light” and all players will begin to move towards the finish line (their computer/desk/seat).
- Remember to remind players which movement they should be doing during this round.
- When the leader does the motion for “Yellow Light” everyone must move in slow motion.
- When the leader does the motion for “Red Light” everyone must immediately stop and freeze.
- If the game leader sees players are still moving after you call “Red Light,” they must go back to the starting line.
- Once most players have made it to their finish line, the game leader should begin round two.
- Tell the players that in round two, the leader will no longer use motions but will verbally say “Green Light,” “Yellow Light,” and “Red Light.” Students will have to listen closely to the game leader to know when they will be able to move. In this round the leader can not make any motions.
- Remind all students to come off mute, respectfully, because it will make the game more challenging and fun!
- Round two should continue until most players have made it to their finish line.
- For round three, the game leader will use both the motions from round one and the verbal commands from round two.
- Continue with round 3 until all players have made it to their finish line.
