The Marlborough Primary School Cross Country Champs have been postponed until Thursday. We wish Lena all the best on the day and know she will represent the school with pride.
Please be aware we are noticing a resurgence of COVID-19 in the community with children and staff self-isolating as close contacts and positive cases. As I indicated in the last newsletter we are working very hard to cover any staffing absences with limited reliever availability across Marlborough. We are doing all we can to keep classes operating. If staffing levels are unsafe, we will move to home learning. While this is the last resort, it is something that may happen in the coming weeks.
Please as always, if you or your child are unwell, stay home, get tested, follow the current MoH advice and let the school know. We have RAT tests available here at school if families require them.
Our school office is closed from today until next Tuesday at this stage. We will be clearing messages from the phone in the morning before school.
The School Board nominations have been completed and we have the following members confirmed: Helen Lyons, John Clark, Ank Mulder, Emily Gee, Vanessa Beck (parent representatives), Cheryl Alderlieste (Staff Representative) & Debbie Stanger (Principal)
Welcome to the new and returning members. A big thank you to Bec Boniface who has stepped down from the Board. Your dedication and time while on the board was appreciated.
The staff all completed training in Pause Breathe Smile last Monday at our Staff Only Day. I have included some more information on this programme later in the newsletter. It is something that we believe will help children (and adults) manage the ups and downs of life and set them up for success.

Pause Breathe Smile Wellbeing
Pause Breathe Smile with Southern Cross is a mind health programme designed to help Kiwi kids aged five to 12 learn the essential skills and tools to manage the ups and downs of life and set them up for a healthy future. It is delivered in schools, by teachers, and aligned to the New Zealand curriculum.
Southern Cross, New Zealand’s leading independent health and wellness provider, has joined forces with the Pause Breathe Smile Trust and The Mental Health Foundation. Together they share a vision of equipping every child in New Zealand with the tools to achieve positive mind health. Through this partnership the Pause Breathe Smile programme will be available to primary kids aged five to 12 at no cost to schools.
Pause Breathe Smile is the nation’s own locally designed and internationally recognised schools’ mindfulness based programme. The results are backed by research, and show that Pause Breathe Smile increases wellbeing, reduces stress, boosts conflict resolution skills and enhances self-awareness.

Term 3 Mask Wearing
For the start of Term 3, 2022, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health strongly recommend that all schools require mask wearing in all indoor settings (where it will not have a significant impact on teaching and learning – see below) for students in Year 4 and above.
This recommendation does not include any situation where mask-wearing might not be practicable, such as while eating and drinking, playing certain musical instruments, indoor sports, where it will have a significant impact on teaching and learning (for example, students with particular learning needs), certain activities such as singing or drama performance on stage, and PE. In these situations, particular attention should be paid to ensuring there is good ventilation during the activity and physical distancing where practicable.
In line with the recommendations, we will be ensuring that the staff working with Year 4-6 children are wearing masks, and encourage our Year 4-6 children to wear masks.

Taekwon-Do
Legion Taekwon-Do is a dynamic martial art, and it is also an exciting sport suitable for all ages and abilities. Classes are for everyone from beginners to advanced levels.
Focused mind, disciplined body and pure spirit through community participation is our motto. Keeping this in mind, we encourage individual growth through a family feel atmosphere whilst practicing Taekwon-Do techniques.
Fees will be free to any Spring Creek School students and to the Spring Creek community. Classes will be Monday 3:15 - 4:15 pm in the Spring Creek Hall from this term. Families need to arrange for their children to go to the hall after school.School Docs
