LCS Virtual Academy Newsletter
23-24 Edition #33
Updates and Information
Welcome back from Spring Break. We are looking forward toour students getting back into the routine of work.
Students should be at 70% progress as of Friday last week in each of their classes. For updated grades and progress, please use ONLY Pearson or email your child's teacher as Powerschool has a delay in its sync.
Look out for communication regarding spring testing season listed below.
Many students have reported audio issues during google meet. A fix that we tried and tested is attending google meet through calendar invite rather than through email invite for the time being. Another fix is to go under Settings and making sure that the microphone and speakers are set as Default- Internal Mic and Default- Speaker

All About State Testing
*Accommodated testing will occur in classrooms during their scheduled time
**Those grades not testing will have school as normal on the testing dates**
Please fill this form out as soon as possible. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to any of us in the virtual office. State testing Form
Prior to the testing window, we will be doing Digital Readiness Checks with all testers so they are “pre-registered”. As part of it, students will have the opportunity to provide optional student information, accessing College Board's BigFuture School app, and opt into Connections during this time. Beginning this Spring 2024, parents/guardians will have the opportunity to “opt out” their student from this if they choose.
Note: this is not an opt-out request from participating in the PSAT 9, the PSAT 10, or the SAT with Essay. These assessments are required by the federal and/or state law. Rather, this process allows parents and guardians to opt their student out of providing optional information that is not directly related to the administration of these assessments.
If you do not want your student to provide this optional information, please return the Parental/ Guardian Opt-Out Form for Optional Information Provided During the SAT Suite of Assessments to the Lincoln High School Main Office before spring break.
Student Guides for State Testing: PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and SAT (11th).

Lincoln School Closings Protocols
As the winter season approaches, we understand the importance of timely notification for families and staff in the event of school closings. We strive to make the decision in advance, whenever possible, to allow for adequate planning. However, in most cases, the decision may not be made until early morning, typically no later than 5:00 AM.
When inclement weather is in the forecast, members of Lincoln's Transportation Department actively monitor road conditions. Our district covers over 72 square miles, including several rural regions.
To ensure ample time for high school students who begin at 7:10 AM, we plan to notify all families no later than 5:30 AM. This will include automated phone calls, emails, and text messages to all Lincoln students and staff. We will also inform local radio and television stations in the Ann Arbor and Detroit areas. Additionally, we will update our district website (LincolnK12.org) and utilize social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Communicating with the Lincoln Community
For your convenience Lincoln posts school and athletic schedules, school board agendas/meeting minutes, dates for important events, and much more in a variety of formats.

Counselor's Corner
All Seniors: I will need for all of our seniors to email or reach out to me your counselor, so we can discuss your last semester requirements for high school. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Here's a summary of your counseling announcements:
1. Weekly Logins: Ensuring students regularly log into Pearson and attend class meetings is essential for staying connected and engaged with their learning.
2. Credit Recovery: Students interested in credit recovery can fill out the form provided on the mentioned website. Once submitted, you will contact them to set up a meeting to discuss suitable courses. There is a fee of $10 per class for this service.

School (Programs such as health science, marketing, auto technology, and many more). FREE Breakfast & Lunch for ALL Students
Lincoln Consolidated Schools will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs for the School Year 2023-2024.
The GREAT NEWS is that ALL students enrolled at our school district can receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE to your household each day. There is still a charge for Ala Carte items.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Every household has to fill out and sign the Education Benefits Form, even if you do not plan to use the meal service. This report is critical in determining the amount of money that our school district receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs like Title I A, At-risk (31a), Title II A, E-Rate, etc.
These supplemental programs have the potential to offer supports and services for our students including, but not limited to:
Instructional supports (staff, supplies & materials, etc.)
Non-instructional services (counseling, social work, health services, etc.)
Professional Learning for staff
Parent and Community engagement supplies and activities

Contact Info
If any contact information has changed for your household including emails, mailing address or phone numbers, please let us know asap! Those of you that have moved recently and want to continue with us, please read the following information and fill out whatever applies to your household.
To find out what school district your current address falls under, please visit HERE!
If you have moved, we would like you to fill out either the Change of Address form (address change within the district)
or the School of Choice Application (if you are now residing out of the district)
Additionally, if you are not the homeowner, you need the Shared Household Affidavit form filled out by both the renter and the homeowner as proof of residing within the school district
If these forms aren't completed, your child risks not being enrolled at Lincoln Consolidated Schools for the upcoming school year.
School Bus Ridership Program
All VA students can request transportation using the VA Bus transportation request form. Students are required to comin in for state testings and can utilize the bus system if needed for that.
The Lincoln student bus ridership program provides an extra layer of SAFETY by making sure students board the correct bus and preventing students from exiting at the wrong stop. Families feel a greater connection to their students with near real-time alerts as they board and depart the bus while drivers have an extra layer of protection in preventing students from getting off at the wrong stop.
Drivers will be enforcing the ridership program. In order to ride the bus to or from school, students can use:
Student ID badge (Previous year badges will work)
Device with the "Here Comes the Bus" app installed showing the barcode on the screen
Printed barcode from “Here Comes the Bus” app.
If you require a student badge, please contact us at transportationoffice@lincolnk12.org with your student’s name and school. Transportation will provide only two (2) badges during the course of the school year. A $5.00 fee will be assessed to replace additional badges.
Please help us by checking with your student before they leave for the bus stop to make sure they have their ID/Scan Code/Phone Barcode ready to enter the bus.

LCS-VA in the News!!
We are so excited to share an MLive news feature on the Virtual Academy. A special thanks to all the families who offered to be interviewed.
Sports at LCS
VA students are allowed to participate in any sports offered by Lincoln Consolidated Schools
Athletic Registration
Remember - Registration only needs to be completed ONCE per year. If you played a fall sport - your physical and registration are good for the entire 2023-24 school year. Playing a sport for the first time, go online to register using the online system StudentCentral (formally called PlanetHS) to register for your winter sport HERE...the same online system we've used for the past three years!
New to the process? Go to www.SplitterNation.com and click on the ""HS/MS Athletic Registration" tab at the top to get started and for full instructions.
Remember:
- Athletes MUST have a new physical dated after April 15th, 2023 to be compliant (last year’s physical does NOT count for this year’s registration)
- Every athlete and parent will need to log onto your account and upload the new physical and digitally sign all consent forms (this is an annual requirement)!
- We will no longer be accepting any forms in the athletic office, all registration must be done online through StudentCentral.
- Online registration MUST be completed in order to start official practices for winter sports in November!
- Students who are not fully compliant by the start date for their team will NOT be able to participate in any practices, workouts, or tryouts until they are fully compliant…get this done NOW to avoid missing practices or tryouts!
Fees & Physicals
Athletic fees haven’t changed – HS Participation is still $140 or $100 for MS sports. Pay ONCE a year…play a second or third sport for free!
Click on www.SplitterCommunity.com to pay athletic fees, and to learn about all events and programming happening through Community Education, the Lincoln Athletic Building, and the Lincoln Pool! FREE MHSAA Physicals are offered throughout the school year at the Middle School and High School RAHS Clinics. Call today at the numbers below to schedule your appointment today!
