Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
What a whirlwind of a week. This is the time of year that leaders are pulled out often for community meetings, budget meetings, and principal meetings. We come back from the holidays and Budget/Hiring season is upon us, so it’s been a bit crazy. When I do not see you or the kids, it makes for many long days, but in the end, it’s all totally worth it! I have been visiting classrooms to observe Reading/Writing instruction this week and our kids continue to blow me away with their creativity. Thursday, in second grade, I was able to witness turn and talk with partnerships during the mini lesson and our students love to share and give feedback to one another. Our kids are so smart and I tell them that all the time. Their potential is endless and I am so proud of all I see when I visit instruction.
As of today, we have completed all safety drills since our return from break. These included a fire drill and a shelter drill for severe weather, as well as hard/soft lockdowns. If your students mention any of these, they were all practice so do not be alarmed. We have to stay up-to-date with our procedures. On that note, I want to remind you that when you buzz into our school, you should always be asked by the person working the front desk, your name, and nature of your visit. This is not to inconvenience you, but it is what is being asked of us from the school safety department and we will follow that procedure. If you ever see a safety concern, please bring it to my attention directly via email so I can correct it with our staff.
I want to remind you of two important things:
1. Please complete the parent survey for Star Climate. We are very proud to currently hold the highest star available, 5, and we want to maintain that. Right now we have 44 parents who have completed this and we need more!
2. Our 100th day of school is Wednesday. We are inviting our whole school to dress up like they are 100 years old. We hope to see all of our students participating in this fun event.
Finally, shout out to Sarah Jones (Literacy Coach) and Kendra Sanders (first grade teacher) for being recognized as our December Employees of the Month. Sarah works so hard to train our teachers and parents on best practices for Reading and Writing. She is the epitome of a model employee and I wish I had a million of her to share. Kendra Sanders is a teacher I am so proud of. She came to us as a brand new teacher and MHS graduate. She puts her nose to the ground and gets work done just like a veteran. We have been most impressed with her maturity and willingness to help her team and our entire organization.
Coming Next Week - International Night!
Georgia Parent Survey
The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions and is part of our CCRPI Star Climate Rating. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of our School Climate Star Rating and we currently have 5 stars here at CCES. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.
