Habitat

the tarantula live in many types of environments, including tropical rain forests and desert areas. most tarantulas are found in Africa, Asia, South and Central America, Mexico, and the southwestern United States.(SIRS) In the winter, spiders go into dormant stage mainly because the bugs (there food source) goes scares. (SIRS) Some spiders live in spider webs and some in burrows.

Movement

The tarantula has 8 legs which can help it run up to 10 mph. That's fast for a spider. some animals can out run the tarantula, but some cant. they need to look up because a tarantula can jump. The Antilles pinktoe tarantula can jump up to 11 inches. That's almost as tall as a ruler. There legs move one at a time, which looks really creepy if you hate spiders.

Body Coverings

Tarantulas have large, round, hairy bodies. Like all arachnids, they have eight legs, which are also hairy. They have two palps, or appendages near their mouths, eight eyes, and two large fangs. They vary in color, depending on the species, or type of tarantula. Most are black or brown, but some tarantulas can be red, blue, green, yellow, or orange. (SIRS)

Diet

Tarantulas are carnivores they eat frogs, insects, toads, mice, lizards and some eat birds (SIRS) did you know, the Goliath bird-eater eats young birds. The Goliath bird-eater uses poison to kill there prey. (national zoo)

Reproduction

Tarantulas are arachnids. Their babies hatch from an egg. (SIRS) They can have 60 babies, who are all eager to learn. . Did you know, that the mothers berry there young in soil or sand, its like a little nursery for them (The Tarantula Scientist, 51)

Adaptions

Tarantulas are found in Africa, Asia, South and Central America, Mexico, and the southwestern United State. (SIRS) Tarantulas live in many types of environments, including tropical rain forests and desert areas.(SIRS) There fuzz on there body help blend them into the trees. Some are green so they can blend into the grass and leaves. I never knew that there were green spiders until i found an artical on SIRS.

  • There are over 800 species, or types, of tarantulas in the world (SIRS)
  • They belong to the Theraphosidae family (SIRS)

  • Tarantulas can live up to 30 years. (SIRS)
  • There are no population estimates for tarantulas (SIRS)
  • In some countries. Tarantulas are used for food.
