School Information
Save the date for the Ramsey School Dance!
Ramsey will host our first school dance of the year May 20th during the school day. Students will go to their regular classes for a shortened time. After attending their shortened schedule, students will have the option to attend the dance in the gym, play sport activities in the other gym, play board games in the cafeteria, or enjoy activities outside for the last two hours of the school day.
RMS School Store!! Students can use their ROCKS tickets to purchase fun items at our NEW school store during lunch. Click Here to see the full details. The school store was such a hit, we are looking for items to be donated (items include stickers, airheads, jolly ranchers, lifesavers, and mentos, styluses, etc.). They can be dropped off in the main office.

French Immersion Information
This year, we have district funds to support language proficiency testing for 8th grade students in our Ramsey French immersion classrooms. A proficiency test determines the level of language proficiency a student has achieved, regardless of how the language was taught or when it was learned. A language proficiency assessment is not meant to be an evaluation of a teacher or learner. Rather, we hope the data will inform our teaching practices and program design, as well as present a more holistic picture of what our learners can do in the target language.
This year we are using the STAMP 4S assessment in grade 8. The “4S” is the four skill areas and the assessment consists of 4 parts - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will need approximately 45 minutes to complete each section, for a total testing time of 3 hours. District staff will be present to help proctor and provide on-site support for the classroom teachers and learners. There are sample tests available for students to take with the classroom teacher beforehand.
All results will be shared with the classroom teacher, students, and families/guardians. A guide to interpret the results will be included as well.
Ramsey 8th graders are scheduled as follows:
½ of the students: Tuesday / May 24
½ of the students: Friday / May 27
Testing will begin in the morning. As students finish, they will return back to their regular classes.
Madame Payia Yang has a list of who is testing on which day and this will be communicated with all staff so that the student is not marked absent.
If you have any questions, please contact the following:
Madame Payia Yang, French Immersion Social Studies Teacher (rachel.payia-yang@spps.org) Madame Teresa Vibar, Ramsey M.S. Principal (teresa.vibar@spps.org)

8th Grade Finance Park Field Trip Looking for Volunteers
Volunteer/Chaperone Information
We are looking for volunteers to help on an 8th grade field trip on May 25th & 26. Students will only attend one day from 9:45-1:30. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information about the trip, please contact Ramsey’s Learning Lead, Mike Krech at michael.krech@spps.org or (651) 744-4887.
What is Finance Park
All 8th graders will have an opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement Finance Park which introduces students to personal finance and career explorations through classroom instruction complemented by a day-long hands-on experience where students apply learned concepts in a life-like community. During this one-day experience, students assume family and income scenarios and visit businesses to gather information for their personal financial decision-making.
Families of 8th-graders, look for permission slips with your student’s specific field trip day listed coming home this week.
