Message from the Principal
1. As a result of Stephanie Scott and Ed Laudise being named Golden Apple recipients, the press, community members and Champions for Learning staff and volunteers were singing the praises of our schools and staff members as they walked through our halls on Friday. Although there are too many positive comments to share all of them, here are a few that were heard; "I love this school.", " How have you managed to have so many great teachers and Golden Apples?", " We love coming here.", "Collier County needs more schools like this one." and "This is the most welcoming school, it's different than the others." Kudos to our Golden Apples and all of you for making LWIT/LWTHS stand out above the rest.
2. On Thursday, 2/26, Joann Cassio took four of our current seniors, who have decided to serve our country by joining the Marines, to hear Colonel Tom Manion, co- author of Brothers Forever, speak at Seacrest Country Day School. The students were introduced to all in the audience as future Marines.
3. More and more people in Southwest Florida are hearing about LWIT and the Fly-in,Cruise-in thanks to Jack Izbicki and his wife who have attended every car show in our area to encourage member participation in our event.
4. Lin Flood and Carla Trombetta took several dental assisting students to volunteer at Give Kids a Smile sponsored by Healthcare Network of SWFL. Students were recognized for professionalism and for giving back to the community.
5. A former student sent Dr. Patton the following letter:
Dear Dr. Patton,
I wanted to recognize the fabulous students and teachers of the automotive department of the LWIT school. I am a 2011 LPN graduate of the Lorenzo Adult Nursing program. I was pleased to discover the LWIT automotive program and have used them on numerous occasions. I am grateful for the thousands of dollars they have saved me and the priceless advice they have given me throughout the years. I would love to recognize Mr. Jerry and Mr. Padilla for their outstanding service to the community and especially being available to answer questions on the phone within a very timely manner. Work is always promised on time and my car runs better than ever. I recommend them on every possible occasion to the locals.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Please know that LWIT does good work and I am very proud to call myself a MUSTANG.
Sincerely,
Carmen Angel Perez, LPN , BA
This coming week, more attention will be shed on LWIT/LWTHS starting on Thursday at 5:30 a.m. with a Wink News remote broadcast from our school . If you have time, come out on Saturday and support the Fly-in,Cruise-in. The organizing committee under the direction of Jack Izbicki have work tirelessly to bring it to fruition. They need your help to ensure it is a success on Saturday.
Tech Corner
PBS Learning Media offers an additional video resource for teachers. In addition to the media, you can create assignments for students, set up self-paced lessons, and make quizzes (similar to Discovery Education). As a Florida educator, you also get added tools and access to premium videos. Sign up here.
Instructional Strategy - We often associate visual representations when we think of Marzano’s element #12 (Helping Students Record and Represent Knowledge), but to reinforce and/or address other learning modalities, let’s look at Audioboom to practice differentiating between critically important and supplemental information. In addition, Discovery Education’s SOS, Telephone, uses a group approach to build the knowledge comprehension and/or one could use Cornell Notes for the foundation. My example includes watching the Discovery Education video on safety in science and tech lab settings (Safe Handling of Chemical Reagents) and then recording my notes on Audioboom. I used the App (available in Ios and Android), but you can also record via the web with a microphone. Note there is a recording time limit which helps students be succinct, as well.

Student Services is busy working on planning LWIT’s graduation ceremony for May 28, 2015. LWIT teachers please share the following with students - The link to order your sizes for graduation gowns is http://goo.gl/forms/rvsa3g739G . The deadline to submit your size is Monday, March 2nd so we can place the order. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to stop into Student Services for assistance..
- We need your help! Please do not park in the visitor parking spaces. Many elderly customers have to walk long distances for services because the lot if filled by student vehicles. We don't want our customers to become discouraged and stop coming to our school because they need to park so far from the building. There is plenty of parking in the high school lot for students. Please help us keep visitor parking available for our visitors as it was intended.
- It's almost here! Remember to tell your students about the world famous Fly in/ Cruise in coming up Saturday March 7th, 2015. Great food & Fun!! Do you have volunteers? Contact Jeff Rexford. Hope to see you and your family there!!!
