Almost all students have moved on to Topic 7 which includes adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators. In order for students to be successful they will need to work on the following skills:
- Finding equivalent fractions
- Simplifying/reducing fractions
- GCF (greatest common factor)
- LCM (least common multiple)
- Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators
- Adding and subtracting mixed numbers with unlike denominators

How can you help?
1.) Have a conversation with your student about their math progress, ask them what they are working on and what you can do to help them progress faster!
2.) Make sure they know their math facts!!! Practice flashcards, get them on Reflex Math daily, this is essential.
3.) Practice, practice, practice!!! Any additional practice at home will help them progress even faster.
ELA
When we return from Spring Break, we will begin compare and contrast non-fiction texts.
We finished Where the Red Fern Grows. During the incentive party, many of the kids chose to watch the movie version. I really think they were surprised how much they enjoyed this book and hopefully they will remember it and how it made them feel. They got to see how impactful good writing can be on their emotions.
Remember to have your child read every night. Their homework expectation is that they do read and meet their AR goal. The kids have their new AR goals set and many are already doing great on this. As we approach the end of the school year and the weather gets better, kids struggle to make time to read. Gentle reminders may help with this.
In writing, we will begin our final unit on feature articles. This is our informational piece. I am asking each child to come up with 3 possible people they want to learn about. The people need to be historical, have made an impact on the world, and have a longer life with much information to research. Feel free to make suggestions to them of interesting people.
Science
Earth´s Systems.
Social Studies
We finished the 13 colonies this week. When we return after Spring Break, we will begin the Road to Independence. This is a big unit. It will be broken down in smaller units due to this. The kids will also be given an at home project and at school project to complete. Information will be sent to you the opening week.
