MONTHLY MINDSET-- WE ARE CONNECTED
Here is a video we watched at our Mindset Assembly on Thursday
Embrace Everyone
Below is the message I shared with our students on Friday morning:
WEEKLY RECAP
Monday we celebrated all of our October birthdays! I want to give a BIG shoutout to the PTO for their generosity in providing donuts for all of the students and staff who celebrated an October birthday.
This week we also celebrated our fall/Halloween parties on Tuesday. It was fun to see our students dressed up in their costumes! Each grade had a celebration at the end of day, and from what I saw, everyone had a lot of fun!
On Thursday, we had a mindset assembly and introduced our monthly mindset, which is "We Are Connected". I love this mindset and it serves as a great reminder that at Parkston Elementary we will be kind, and we will be good friends to everyone in our building. In conjunction with our mindset, we will be tracking our acts of kindness through the month of November with paper kindness rings that will eventually be hanging up in our hallways. Next week we will also be doing our yearly food drive as a great way to show our students that we are connected with our community as well! Our student council is taking on these projects. I'm proud of them for their ideas, service, and follow-through on turning these ideas into a reality!
Finally, I wanted to share a few classroom observations. Begindergarten was learning about the lifecycle of a pumpkin and then invited me in to carve a pumpkin with them. It's always fun to be in the BK classroom; they have a great energy and passion for learning! Mrs. Kroeger does a fantastic job of balancing the work they do in small groups vs. the work they do through play. It is incredible to see the connections her students make between the two.
I also wanted to mention the work that is happening in our fifth grade classrooms. They are doing a lot of work in small groups and with book projects to meet their ELA standards. In Math class, they are also doing a lot of group work and practice to learn the necessary material to meet their fifth grade standards. Fifth grade is putting a lot of emphasis on the personalization of the learning that takes place in their classrooms. I'm loving the work their students are doing. It's been a lot of fun to see their students take ownership of their learning. The work these students are doing will help them be prepared for what middle school will require of them next year.
