Elephant Research Project

A Sample for Students

Largest Land Animals

An adult male African Elephant can grow to be 13 ft. tall and weigh 13,000 lbs.!

African elephants are herbivores, which means that they eat plants. An adult can eat up to 400 lbs. of grass, leaves, and roots per day! They use their long trunks to grasp food and gather water, and tusks help them to dig roots.

Life in the Herd

Traveling in a herd provides protection from predators and helps elephants to keep from being lost.

African Savanna

These elephants call the hot and dry grasslands of the Savanna home, and they are perfectly adapted to meet the challenges of this environment.
